Default Second gear issues Help inside ASAP

OK since I bought the car second gear has been a bitch but i learned to get by it. Well now that I am going to sell the beast of course it gets worse.

symptoms:

on the 1-2 shift it feels like every other gear..i.e. slight backpressure right before dropping into gear......then it feels like it goes into gear, then I release the clutch and as soon as there is load on the gear it seems it pops out. Sometimes I can physicaly hold it in, sometimes, but rarely it will not try to jump back out then sometimes I cant even hold it in no matter how much I try.

whats more wierd is after sitting for a while..like a day or so the first couple shifts it shifts into second and hold fine..like nothing at all..soon after that it acts up again.

whats worse is I desperately need to sell the car because basically im broke..therefore I cant even afford to have a shop look at it. I could pull the tranny with one of my friends as I have access to a lift and tranny jack.


As far as I know the tranny hasnt been serviced, should I change to fluid as a first step? if so what weight and what fluid should I use?

I also have the hurst billet plus shifter in it. I idnt install the shifter so I dont know about the stops..or even if it has stops..does this shifter have stops? If so ill check them as soon as I hear back

Your problem sound internal trans.
The stops are inside the trans.
It's a syncro/shift fork problem likely.

If you didn't install the shifter or the stops, that's the first thing I'd check. If the stops on the shifter are installed incorrectly, it will cause this problem. I say remove the stops for now, and see if the problem goes away.

If it's not the stops, then I could see internal tranny problems... Possibly broken plastic shift fork pads. But on all gears? That'd be just too weird.
