Default Which DOT brake fluid to use in the hydraulic clutch system?

The SPEC sheet says to use only GM 5.1 or non-synthetic DOT brake fluid in the master cylinder; synthetic fluid has been known to cause fluid blow-by in the LS1 cars.

Hey Teddy, what's up man. I used the DOT 4 in mine. You can get it at WalMart. I believe it has a higher heat rating than DOT 3.

I going to put the clutch in on Sunday.

Here's what I found about the different DOT rating.
DOT 2 DOT 3 DOT 4 DOT 5
Dry Boiling point 374 401 446 500
Wet boiling point --- 284 311 356

I've been experimenting with brake fluid for the past few years, and here's my experience...

With Valvoline Syntech DOT 4 brake fluid, it works great in brake systems that see track use and routine brake fluid changes.

However, using the Valvoline in the clutch systems tends to brake down some seals and lines because they are not as durable as the braking system. I'm anxious to try some of the Castrol LMA DOT 4 in the brake and clutch systems, especially the clutch systems. From what I understand, it is supposed to be more gentle on the seals and lines, as well as absorb less moisture.

Just my opinion.

Here's what else I found... Good DOT Brake Fluid info...
