Default Help - I think my 4th clutch is shot!

OK, 4th clutch in the car, this one is a RAM 980 with 402PP, new McLeod Master and 2002 slave, drill out mod, new throw out bearing.

Today, I'm driving around the street, clutch pedal starts getting lower, with no pressure pushing back. Goes in easier than stock. I drove maybe 2 more minutes ( heading home ) and all of a sudden, I can't get it in gear anymore. If I put it to the floor and press HARD into 1st, the car starts creeping forward. So I limp it home, and discover the resorvoir in the engine enxt to the brake master is completely empty, and when I remove the black insert I see black sludge underneath. I fill it up, to no avail, still can't get it in gear or anything.

After reading some posts, I assume my hydraulics are toast? I don't have a stain on the carpet or anything from brake fluid out the master, but the boot on the master inside the car is moist with fluid. Clutch is adjusted fine.

Hmmm. How many miles do you have on the clutch? It sounds like a simple hydraulic issue (if there is such a thing). Try refilling with fresh fluid, and rebleeding the master and slave. Sounds like your slave may be leaking fliud. Similar thing happened to mine. The slave started leaking, causing the clutch not to disengage, which eventually burned it up. Let us know what happens.

About 8K on the clutch, it has been flawless ( short of taking off ). I find it odd that 1 week prior to taking a dump the clutch performed it's best; extremely easy in and out of gear.

Thank God I was around home when this happened today and not 40 miles away at work.

Now to start bleeding it...and hope that takes care of it while I get a new slave on order.

Would you say rebleeding is real temporary?

I would try the rebleed first, and at the first sign of it acting up again, replace the slave. When mine went, pedal pressure was very light, and it shifted great, just like you say. Mine decided to crap out on me 100 miles from the house.

Sounds like the seal/seals in your master cylinder are not sealing properly, which would also explain why you are going thru clutches so fast. McLeod can rebuild it for you.

I'm awaiting a call back from George from McLeod to see what can be done.

At this point, I do not know whether it's the master or slave that's bad.

WM,

Well, this master went in 8K ago. The 3 clutches prior to that were on my stock 99' master.

They are sending me a 'cup and seal' to fix my existing master.

Now I'm having fun disconnecting the slave....

Went at the disconnect again this afternoon ( only gave it 10 minutes yesterday ). However, when I just went to unhook my master at the slave, I noticed fluid where the tranny meets the engine. Now granted, I'm at an angle as I only have the driver side of the car in the air, but does this mean my slave is shot too?
