i use a pro 5.0, it was cut down .75 but now i have a new one. like said above it takes practice. what i do is put slight pressure on the shifter twards the next gear, than stab the clutch and it slides right in.

stock with a short shifter. I think I can shift pretty fast but I spend alot of time playing with my shifter so that helps.

This guys got it, I dont use a whole lot of pressure, just a little. This summer Ill be practicing at the track a bit more. WS6TransAm01 inspires me, to want to shift that fast!

Just put my transmission in last night, got a brand new Textralia Z-grip in there, a new RAM adjustable master, new slave, and I'm bleeding it a ton when I get home from work to make sure everything is running well. Hopefully when all is said and done around 6:30pm, I'll be posting up my setup and technique in this thread (for the first freakin time since I've owned this car......talk about clutch and transmission issues ).

I've been through a stock hurst, a B&M Ripper, and now the Pro 5.0; I'm no faster with any of one vs. the other, but I'm far more accurate with the Pro 5.0, which adds confidence and helps my speed remain more consistent. The 2-3 "shove" on the Pro 5.0 is a more natural movement for me, though some of it may be the Pro 5.0 + Steeda Triax putting the shifter in a better position for my swapped car.

i have two questions for u guys...

when ur at the track or racing, do u let off the gas when shifting? and do u put the clutch all the way to the floor or just "stab" it enough to get to the next gear?

My right foot is firmly planted into the floor boards pressing the throttle pedal as hard as I can. I have an adjustable master on my CARTEK clutch, it is adjusted all the way up, and catches really high, so all I have to do is tap the clutch to get to disengage as I pull the next gear.

I used to practice on the street at about 50% throttle, keeping my left foot in the same position [constant 50% throttle] taping the clutch, and pulling the shift as fast as I could at about 3000rpm.

Was never one for going WOT on the street... too scared of cops.

I just started practicing the exact same way... Any more pedal than that the car goes sideways without Drag Radials..

SLP shifter with 6" WS6Store short stick. I shift somewhat fast. But, my clutch is crap, so I can't exactly shift very fast now.

Does the stock clutch not engage until about half way to the floor? In my 94 I can shift it fast as ****, but in the 99 i have to almost put the pedal to the floor before the clutch wants to let me shift. Would an adjustabke help out or would messing with this one help?

I think one important issue people tend to overlook that everyone in this thread needs to be aware of is that THE number one most important aspect to fast shifts is a properly working clutch. If your clutch drags at all, especially at high RPMs, you'll get a bit of a hesitation inbetween shifts, making you feel like you just can't shift fast. I went through this for the past two years knowing I could shift well because I did so on everyone else's car, but mine would just not shift quick. It took two years and a lot of money to figure the problem out, but now that the clutch is fully disengaging, shifting is almost simple and very fast, especially compared to how it used to feel before having a properly working clutch.

PS - if the clutch is dragging and you continue to drive it like that, you can say goodbye to your clutch AND transmission. Ask me how I know.

From what I understand, an adjustable master will allow you to move the position of the pedal further up, effectively moving the catch point of the clutch up as well. However the actual amount of travel needed will depend on the pressure plate and friction plate of the clutch.
