Thumbs up to McLeod
Having bought the setup at Thunder Racing I was dealing with Jason to trying to get things resolved. First off, Jason and everyone at Thunder really worked hard to help me out and try and get this thing fixed. Orginal thinking was that the M/C wasn't being bled properly. I'm a novice at this hydraulic clutch stuff so they very well might have been right. But no method of bleeding ever fixed the problem. I replaced every peice of the clutch hydraulics in the hopes that something else was wrong. That didn't work. So we got to the point where the M/C I have should be replaced.
Since it was purchased so long ago they had to hand me over to McLeod themselves. I was worried about this at first but I have to say McLeod has been very professional and their customer service was top notch.
I spoke with Les and he basically answered every question I had. On top of that they wanted to wait to send me a repleacement M/C so that I could receive the new batch of cylinders with upgraded internals.
After we hashed out the specifics of my M/C and what was being done we got into "proper" bleed methods. Here's what Les told me.
He first suggested buying a pheonix pump over the Mity Vac due to the fact that the Pheonix reverse bleeds and he thought this was better. He said you can go with the Mity vac though, but if you can't get any nasty bubbles out with that then you might want to try the pheonix. He also told me how he suggests to bench bleed this.
Mount the M/C to a vise in the vertical position so that the acuator rod(rod that connects to the clutch pedal) is pointing sraight up. Then either connect the mighty vac to the resevior nozzle and suck the bubbles out, or connect the pheonix to the slave cylinder connection and push the fluid threw. But here's the funy part. He suggested getting a palm sander(or some vibrating power tool) and hold the handle to the M/C. Obviously you don't want to sand the M/C, but the vibrating tool will help shake any trapped air bubbles loose.
They are shipping my M/C out tomorrow and I should get it sometime next week. Assuming the weather cooperates, I'll install it next week and let you guys know what I think of the upgraded M/C and the bleed method.
But regardless, I have to give McLeod a thumbs up for really good customer service.
Mike
p.s. Les told me he looked at my M/C and there was some unusual wear patterns on the top of the seals that he labelled as a "head scratcher" <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_images/icons/tongue.gif" />
