Spec Stage III Kevlar
2 guys local to me have the Stage 3 ceramic. I had a stage 3 carbon which had some chatter, but not bad. The ceramic has 0 chatter. That's the way I'd go.
Ok I'm confused because I'm looking into picking up a Spec also, but I read this from a sponser that Spec is changing their clutch material:
"*SPEC NEWS FLASH*
HELLO! I just got done placing an order with Dave at Spec Clutches and we chatted a bit about their new X-Pad. It is taking place of the ceramic or carbon option with the stage 3 or 4 clutch. The X-Pad is a hybrid of carbon and ceramic, giving you the holding power of the ceramic disk, with the streetability of the carbon. SO here is the kick, they're shying away from the ceramic or carbon option. They said that they will be shipping most all orders with the new X-Pad design."
Now I'd like a Spec, but I'd also hate to be a guinney pig with this new design.

From what the sponsors have been telling me, the carbon Stage III is the smoothest, Kevlar next, and ceramic last. This X-Pad sounds promising, though. I'm trying to get some price and availability info from Jason at TSP. I'll post up what I find out.
Sounds good, thanks Cal. Also if your interested East Side has a post in the Sponser/GP section about some pretty good pricing for a clutch/flywheel package. I'll be stopping by their shop Wednesday, so I'll ask those guys about this new X Pad thing. It sounds promising, I'm just hesitant to be one of the first to try out a new design.
Well just head back from Jason at TSP. He says all of the Spec clutches are X-pad now, and that's what I'll be getting, direct from Spec for $375 + $25 shipping.

I just put in a stage 3 ceramic. NO chatter at all with 100 miles on it. My last clutch was a Mcleod rev-lok. It used to squeal like a stuck pig. Stupid thing broke after 6,000 miles. It lost a spring in the pressure plate.
Sounds great! How's the pedal pressure on those things? I hope it's stiffer than stock, I can hardly feel any resistance when I push in the stock clutch.
My buddy's Stage III carbon chatters like hell IMO, and thats why I got the kevlar disk. It has no more chatter than my stocker. I dont take my car to the track much, so a Stage II is fine for me. Also, the pedal pressure is much nicer over stock. It takes slightly more effort, but its a linear feel, unlike stock. No more dead play up top.
So some say the ceramic chatters the most, some say that it doesn't chatter at all. Why the varying results? Could it have to do with the way they were installed? I'm looking into a spec stage 3 but everytime I check them out, people have totally different things to say. Maybe its hit or miss with the ceramic?? Maybe the X-pad will elliminate all the variation. Does anyone with this new X-pad want to chime in?

Well I have the X-pad on order, so when I get it installed I'll come back and post the results. I plan to at least break the glaze on the flywheel before putting it back in, depending on the condition it's in to minimize chatter. I'm going to be running my car at the Bonneville Salt Flats on a 2 mile course, so I'll have the engine maxed out for a much longer time than in a drag race and can't afford any clutch slipage.
