Default Hard to put in ANY gear. -C5 Z06-

My brother has a 2001 Z06 with only about 30K on it. He bought it just recently and all is well except the clutch engages right off the floor and the trans is hard to put in any of the gears. Almost as if the clutch isn't dissengaging all the way when the pedal is pushed in. I figured maybe a Master/slave cylinder situation,(although I thought those problems were fixed by '01), or maybe needs to be bled or something.

Anyway he stopped by this local Corvette shop and after a trip around the block the mechanic says "the clutch is shot." The clutch isn't slipping or anything, nor does the car show signs of ever having been "raced" or "ragged out" whatsoever in it's 30K mi life. I just find this hard to believe. Any input as to what the REAL problem is would be greatly appreciated. After all- Clutches is expensive yo! Thanks, Dave

Try replacing the slave cylinder, and master one. Who knows Vette's have a tendency to be drivin HARD. I'd get a second or 3rd opinion. Try a specialty shop such as transmission and gear place, they know their stuff and won't jerk you around.

The mechanic could be right. Sometimes the disk will warp and cause disengagement issues that are hard to pin down, even if you pull the tranny you may not see it, unless the pp is pulled. Is there any dead pedal? Is it shifting hard? Grinding? The latter two would point to the mechanic being dead on.

I'd try bleeding it first. If that doesn't help the mechanic could be right. Either that or a hydraulic component is shot.

Hmmm, guess we'll go with bleeding it first then, since that's free, then go from there.......
