Default Changing Tranny Fluid and a bit nervous

Last time the fluid was changed on my car it was right after I bought it. Afterwords I pulled out for a little test drive and the tranny grinded going into second gear. Turns out 2nd gear and the 2-3 synchro were bad in it. Didn't grind before the fluid was changed so I don't know if the dealer or previous owner put some kind of additive in it to mask the problem, or if the old fluid is just better at hiding problems. So I'm a bit nervous over the fresh fluid revealing any more problems. Does old fluid better mask problems such as bad syncros???

Did you put in a synthetic fluid? My tranny HATED synthetic. I put in some GM Synchromesh and it shift better than when I bought the car.

Same here. Only I used generic Dexron 3.

Nah, I used the Dexron 3, although it was Mopar Dexron 3, but I don't see how there would be a difference. I'm just scared because back in winter time, the 2nd to 3rd shift all of a sudden started grinding, even when i granny shifted it. Since then I've just been going from 2nd to 4th, unless I'm at WOT in which case I'll go from 2nd to 3rd and I haven't had any problems. I'm just worried that when I change the fluid and hit the road and slam it into third that I'll be greeted with a wonderful grinding noise, just like a repeat of the last time I changed the fluid.
