Default RAM Clutch question

I have talked about this before, but now I think I have some problems. I have the 6130 Disc and 402 PP on a stock motor with no bolt-ons and spraying up to 150HP of nitrous. The last couple of runs on the street on street tire, I noticed a burned or heated smell after I am done. And just today, I noticed some surging in the driveline and not the motor. I even saw in a AutoTap recording. I do have about 37 races on my drag radials at the track, countless on the street, and daily driving add up to 23K miles. Does this mean my clutch is shot?

First off, the 6130 is NOT to be used with nitrous. Check Ram's webiste, and they even say the 6000 series disk is great for N/A racing, use the 900 series(910) disk for nitrous. Swap the disks before your 6130 melts to you flywheel and you get stranded.

Sorry to hear ur luck bud BUT he's right, that disc u have will melt to the flywheel. I have the 910 setup, love it. u will too. when u get it, don't worry about the chatter, u will learn to drive it so it won't. The 910 doesn't like to slip, that's why it chatters. That's why it's awsome for nitrous, doesn't slip so u get ur HP and TQ to the back w/o delay.

Yes, you can just swap the disks. Have the flywheel cleaned up and you are set, just as long as the 402 pressure plate is in good shape.

Now what about RAM's recommendation of not using the stock flyhweel since it will wear it out faster?

Phoenix - to be sure the existing plate is ok, first put a straight edge across the plate and check for warp. If you have more than .020-.030, the plate needs resurfaced. Also check for smearing or shiny hot spots on the surface, also indicates need to resurface. If you install the new disc on this old surface you will likely get premature wear/slippage as the new disc will not seat properly. You can unbolt the plate and send it in to be resurfaced or you can purchase a new ring. In either case, a little extra time now will save lots later!

added on to all the above, make sure the flywheel is not discolored, like heat spots. if there is, I don't know if u have the money too but I'd get a new steel FW from RAM.

OK, I think the clutch is really gone. I can do any hard driving without smelling the hot clutch. Even without nitrous. Now, my new question. I want to go to a street twin after a engine and trans rebuild, but until then can I use my stock disk. The stock clutch disc had plenty of material left, just the flywheel and stock pp was glazed over. What if I resurface the flywheel and 402pp and use this disk for awhile. What do you guy think?

I would just buy the 910 disk and use it with your new motor. The 910 setup rocks.

I vote the 980 setup; organic on the flywheel side, iron sintered on the other side. Good for street, still get some minor chatter but I end up leaving in traffic at around 1200 to avoid the chatter.

Phoenix - stock clutch disc is 11 3/4 inch, this will not fit with the 11 inch RAM plate.

That is a good point, Stick. I guess I will get the 910 disc. I still don't know about the 980 and having two different material on each side.

Summit has it, but no description. They sell it for $215.
