I would not use B+M ripper, i found that shifter too easy to backshift because it didnt center the shift handle with any real bias. I like factory option Hurst but not its isolator handle, so i took ripper handle, cut it to nice short length, drilled two mounting holes and bolted it to Hurst shifter. Instant awesome shifter! I would recc: Pro 5.0 or short stick handle for you.

Never used a BM shifter so I can't comment on it, other than I don't like the fact you can't change the stick.

As for the factory Hurst, I don't like it because it sit's too high for my tastes. It is quiet. Putting a short stick on like LS1derful did would probably make a decent shifter out of it.

The Pro 5.0 is what I have in my car. It's a little noiser than stock but that doesn't bother me. I like the precise feel it has. I would buy a Pro 5.0 again. I feel more confident shifting with the Pro 5.0 due to the offset handle that with the Hurst.

i just put a short stick on the factory hurst...i gotta tell ya, for $25 shipped, itss my favorite mod so far. shifts are way shorter aand aa lot firmer. only down side is that there is slightly more noise coming from the tranny now (since the original ssticck has a rubber insulator), but its no big deal.

Same thing here. Best mod under $50. No more missed 2-3 shifts.

If you put a short stick on the stock hurst, can you take it off later and put it on a 5.0?

yes u can i helped a friend of mine to put a pro 5.0 on his ta and there are only 2 nuts holding 2 screws to hold the shifter on easier than pie and i drove i and loved it. it feels like a bank vault.

p.s. dont forget to put blue lock tite and the shifter stops so they dont come loose and stop you from engaging your gears LOL THAT WAS THE FUNNIEST THING EVER!

I have the B@M and love it. I've never used a pro 5.0 however.

i had the B & M ripper and hated it. It seemed i missed 3rd gear more with it than i did with the stock shifter. I sent that P.O.S. back and got me a pro 5.0 w/Lss and havent missed third since. I would NOT recommend a Ripper to anyone!!!

DOes the Pro 5.0 have stops? Does it help in preventing the 3-2 mis shift?

I have had zero problems with my B&M. A quality shifter is a must. Both would be a good upgrade from stock.

I've driven rippers in several cars and liked them all and am running one in my Z. A friend has a Pro 5.0 and I am not at all impressed with the shift feel, it feels solid but less precise than the stock Hurst did? I doubt you will break it, but I never liked using it (tends to reduce wear). As for changing the stick on a B&M, I'm not sure why you'd need to. That is investment cast steel and it stronger than anyone I know. It is shorter than stock as well, but it dosen't make you reach into the console for the ****.

Just my thoughts....

I drove a Ripper for, I dunno 70-80k miles and wore the poor thing out. It's an old style with the bolt-on stick. The swivel deal is so worn out now its kinda funny, and I managed to break one of the stop bolts along the way BUT it always shifted wonderfully. When the transmission came out and was rebuilt (at around 83k) I decided it was time to try something new, so I bought a Pro 5.0.. I haven't put but 100 miles on it, but so far I like it. I left the stick at the full length for now, I'll see if its something I'll want shorter later. Easier to shorten than lengthen

Both are great shifters -- drive one of each to see what you like better. The Pro 5.0 feels very accurate to me, but maybe its just because my Ripper is so worn
