Default Come on M6 guys...

Ok... I've made quite a few posts lately concerning this kind of thing, and honestly, I wish I didn't have to. I wish I could just go read about some new heads or something. But I can't... because every time I race my heap it feels like there is something in my way between 2nd and 3rd. I hit 6grand in 2nd gear and clutch it and try to stuff it in 3rd and it seems like I have to hold it there for a second before it will go in. If i really put some umph in it, i can stuff it in, but it grinds while its going in like a biatch. It is just acting like the clutch isnt disengaging fast enough or completely or something. 1st to 2nd, I do not have this problem. Could the synchro's just be wearing out? Do I have internal problems? I had a B&M Ripper and i just put a Pro 5.0 in it tonight with a Lou's Short Stick. Pro 5.0 shifts alot better, but there is still a hesitation between 2nd and 3rd and im sick of it. Please you fellas tell me whats up with my T56. Thanks

If you do a search on CENTERFORCE - I think you may have a mediocre clutch for those 6grand shifts.

I'm no expert, but I know my Spec stg III kevlar slides right in at 6500rpms with no worries. It could be something internal (shift forks, synchros) or it could be something really simple. Do you have the drill mod done and are those stock master/slave cylinders on your 98?

Good luck!

I would definitely contribute part of your problem to the Centerforce clutch. The other thing you can do to help would be to install a 2001 and later master cylinder and slave.

i know exactly what that is. the aluminum 3/4 shift fork has developed a notch in it from shifting hard. mine did the same thing. would hesitate and grind going to 3rd but if i held it there it would go in. piece of cake to fix, but thats your problem. i had about 1/4" of indention in the fork itself where the pad where the steel retainer sits, and let me tell ya, it looked like it was supposed to be there. talk about bad metal selection in the design. steel and aluminum dont cooperate in tranny parts. a 50$ steel 3/4 shift fork, and half a day of work time fixed that for me. but good luck with it.

Thanks for the help guys. I guess ill get it checked out now. That could be a DEFINITE possibility Vents. I think that could be the case because the jackass that had my car before me must have taken the stop bolts out of the B&M Ripper that was in the car. Im sure that could definitely bend a fork or two and put those notches in them. I might just have synchros put in if im going to go to the hassle of doin shift forks. Seems like centerforce is not where its at... What's the best new clutch guys? Cartek? Spec? Thanks for the help. Im starting to think the guy before drove the hell out of this car. Its only got 43k on it, but who knows.

The T56 has internal stops and they dont need to be on the shifter. I believe B&M quit installing the bolts. I'd ditch the Centerforce while the trans is out. I really like my SPEC clutch. For a daily driver that isnt at the strip every weekend, I'd get the Stage 2 Kevlar. Thats what I have and it doesnt chatter like the S3 one does. Plus, its cheap...I paid $350 for it a few months back. It grabs good enough at the track to break axles

they didn't stop my buddy from bending a 3/4 shift fork. it's wierd that i have never bent a shiftfork in my 4+ years of racing ls1 6-speeds. i contribute some of this to my use of the pro 5.0 with positive stop points. it's just some added insurance and they're really easy to set. i've never understood why people wouldn't use them.

All transmissions have stops (that's why they go into gear). I broke a shift fork in an escort once (came out in 27 pieces, parts and chunks), but I've never had any trouble with the F-bodies and I'm running stops on my B&M. The stops on the B&M are much stronger than anything inside that transmission.....I'd use 'em.

Just my thoughts.

Well... I think I'm going to go with a Mcleod master cylinder and a slave off an 02 F-body. I imagine the weak hydraulics on the car are just not enough for the clutch. It just seem like it is never disengaged all the way. Eventually ill dump the centerforce and get a spec stg2. It just gets really frustrating when i can put one or two cars on my buddy's car off the line and have him come up beside me while im lookin for third cuz of whatever is wrong. so i always just barely beat him by maybe a 1/2 car instead of like 3 or 4 like it should be.

This is the right move for starters... The stock Hydraulics suck... So do all the other aftermarket ones.... I had this problem I put in a McLeod Master problem is gone... I tried 3 or 4 differnt masters. This one is the best hands down. I hope it stays awyay. Its only been a short time since the install...

Just because you bend shift forks doesnt mean that its the result of not having shifter stops. My shift forks are fine and my car still has the OEM Hurst. The 3-4 shift fork is a POS anyway. Its aluminum...come on.
