Default LS2/LS7 clutch issues

I just finished up an install of LS2/LS7 clutch setup. Bled the crap out of the slave cylinder. Pedal seems firm. However, when the vehicle is running and I attempt to put the vehicle in gear it rolls but, I can not put it in gear. Has any one encountered this issue after their install? I am sure that this has been asked a million times but, I could not find any info from previous posts. Any ideas? Any suggestions?

same thing happened to me. get a mity vac and get all the air out from the resesivor. Before I did that I had to slam the pedal to the floor. I mean push it so hard that you think it is going to go threw the floor. Thats what I did because I got mad and it worked. Then I did the mity vac and it got even better and after the PP adjust out then everything is A OK. Hope this helps.

Welcome to tech... Do some searching on the LS7 clutch. A good bit of discussion on the issues with them right after install. Some people have no issues at all. They slap them in and go. Others have the problem of not being able to get it into gear.

When I did mine, with my car up on jack stands, I couldnt get into any gear. 1st through 6th or reverse. It would go...but it was very hard. If the car was on the ground, it wouldnt have dropped into gear at all. Oddly enough, the next day I went out and played with it...and it was perfect.

Other people cant get into gear, and they have to shut their car off to get into first. Then after about 100-150 miles it starts working perfectly.

The only thing I can say...is if you think its bled enough...its not. Bleed it some more. You can try the mity-vac. I for one never had luck with it, but plenty of people have. I use a remote bleeder from LPP, and sometimes use a motive power bleeder along with the remote bleeder. Bleed bleed bleed and bleed some more. Whether its using the mity-vac method or the old fashioned way.

If it still gives you trouble, you might be able to blame your issue on the LS7's self adjusting period. Like I said...do a few searches and you'll find some info.

Good luck!

Justin

I just installed my LS7 clutch & new slave cyl last week. First problem encountered was bleeding the slave. Bled for over 1 hr & no progress at all made. So I did the mityvac trick through the reservoir. It took less than 10 minutes & clutch pedal was nice & stiff. After that I was able to shift it & drive the car but clutch engagement was close to the floor. After driving the car for a few days, it does seem to engage a lil higher up from the floor now.

Well, I have been bleeding my slave cylinder off and on for the last couple of days with no success. Now when you mention the mighty vac trick are you pushing fluid via the reservoir and opening the slave? Or is it possible that master cylinder is bad?

If your pedal was good before you replaced the clutch, then its most likely got a lot of air trapped in the slave. With the mityvac, you are actually sucking the air out of the system by putting a vacuum on the small hole at the bottom of the master cyl reservoir. When doing this, no need to open any bleeders. When I mityvacced mine then removed the vacuum nozzle from the reservoir, I could actually watch the air bubbles come up through the fluid in the reservoir. Trust me, once you do it this way, you will never bleed these any other way. Some will say it ruined my master cyl. Maybe it could if you put more than 20 inches of vacuum on the system. I applied about 15 inches & that got the air out.
