Default T-56 stuck in 4th wont stay in 3rd

To shorten the story i went to the track a week ago but i was little nervous so i let off before i reached the end just as i shifted to 4th gear. i slow down and push in the clutch and the shifter is stuck in 4th so hard there is Nothing that will budge it. i finally popped it out after about an hour or so. drove it home with no issues.

Now i drive down the street and it just kicks itself out of 3rd. I don't know the diagnosis yet seeing as it just got to the shop yesterday. I really hope this does not mean i need a rebuild seeing as my car only has 18.5k miles.

Anyone have any words of comfort or am i in for it?

No comfort to offer. If you have a std aluminum 3/4 shift fork , you need a rebuild to replace it. Search 3/4 shift probs, its quite common.

I had the SAME issue, it only gets worse the more you drive it from now on. Mine started grinding going into 3rd, then grinding going into 3rd and 4th, now my reverse is so hard you have to put it in 6th then jam it into reverse...... so good luck

YEP, bent shift fork, so you are not really putting it all the way in third, and it will jump out, and its pushing the slidder to far when going into forth. take out now, and fix it will be cheaper before you where out the sliders, and syncros/. do billet keys, and a steel shift fork. the rest should be ok, and the billet keys and fork should keep it from happening again.

Billet slider keys, steel 3-4 shift fork to replace the crap alum one, possibly some syncros, are in your future. Go ahead and get some bronze fork pads while your at it.
