local 281 sprinkler fitters. The company I'm with has work but most others are starting to slow down. Word on the street is, it might be a shitty winter

try pipefitters 597. They usually do their hiring around april or so and they need more people cuz of the oil refineries. They do a lot of stick welding also. We have to learn it in school for sprinkler fitters but have never had to do it on the job

Local 52 IUBAC, Tuckpointers here... 9 years in this trade. $41+ an hour. Not as busy as in years past, but i still manage at least 40 a week. Lost alot of guys this year, due to the industry slowing down. Most in this trade are laid off by Thanksgiving, and get called back around March. Me, i usually take Feburary off by choice... I need a break.

Now for some BS-> Earlier this summer 52 merged w/ 21 (bricklayers). No vote, no warning, NOTHING. 21's scale is less, i hear their health package isnt as good as ours, amongst other things... So when our contract is up next June, i see big changes for us. Defintely not good...

Both of my brother-in-laws are 281 Sprinklerfitters..., 9 years in. One got cut down to 4 days a week/32hours. The other just got laid off. He was a Foreman w/ a service van. Really unexpected for him.

Local 176 electrician... was off for almost 9 straight months. I just got back to work about a month ago. Work is up and down. I am hearing Exxon Mobile just laid off like 100 guys (or is in the process of..) and like everyone else said, shitty winter from the looks of things.

Yea Im signing up for that in november, and my buddys neighbor might be able to get me in a little faster. Thing is its not what I really want to do, I would rather be a welder/fabricator. I guess you gotta do what you can do and who will take you though. Im going out to Arizona this tuesday to sign up for Ironworkers union out there. There is only 180 guys on the waiting list and my sister lives out there so it might work out.

Thats part of the problem.

Why would people pay top dollar for a union worker. When theres others doing it for less. Your side jobbing yourself out of work.

Your right there with all the immigrants putting us out of work.
