Default Guys with headers in IL. Emissions question.

So I'm just trying to research what I need for the headers and everything. I already have the LM2 catback. I'm leaning towards the ceramic coated Pacesetters with the AIR/EGR provisions because of the inexpensive price and our emission laws. What I'm wondering is what am I going to need to pass emissions? I'm due to go get my test done soon. Would I need a catted Y pipe as well to pass? I'm not exactly sure what I would need for all of this. Just looking for some advice here. Thanks for all the help!

you can go with a catted or non y pipe and the headers with the AIR/egr stuff or the off road headers without. if you go with the Off road LT's and y you need to have it tuned though, but you will still pass without the egr/air.
i am running the pacesetter coated off road LT's, non-catted ypipe, no air/egr and a basic tune by speed inc. almost forgot the small stuff like o2 extensions

I don't have the cash for a tune right now and I kinda wanted to wait until I get my cam gears and stall in. I thought that since I have an 01 I needed to go with the emissions headers with the air/egr or whatever. What is the purpose for the egr/air on the headers then? And if I don't go with a catted y (which I probably won't if I can still pass) will I throw any codes or anything like that?

you will throw codes but the basic tune is only $150 to get rid of those codes. when you install the cam and gears you'll need their i think its $450 tune.

I gotcha. So why do they offer the egr/air (emissions) headers then? I don't understand what the difference is between the headers if you'll pass either way.

as long as you get a tune there is nothing to worry about. Plus without egr/air it cleans up the engine bay a bit.

With the non EGR\Air header the sensors and such will not work properly so you have to delete them out. Hense the thrown codes. If you buy the EGR/air ones the sensors still work. When I did my 2k TA I did the non EGR\Air ones. Removed alot of the EGR\AIR system from the car. Had somebody with HP tuners delete the codes from my ecm. Passed emissions with flying colors.

I'm thinking about getting rid of the AIR/EGR but I don't know if I want to do that. What are the benefits of removing it other than a little less weight? I might just go with the egr/air then so I won't be throwing codes. That's one of my little ocd things.
