Default Hey KC people!

Gonna be down in Kansas City this weekend. We'll be staying at the Intercontinental by the Country Club Plaza. Anything in particular we should check out, like best bbq, historical sites, nightlife? Not sure if we'll make it downtown but ya never know.

Well for bbq, i would go to arther bryants or smokestack. Both places are really good, but bryants is more laidback and smokestack is more sit down and dine place. For night life i would definitely go to the Power and Light district in downtown KC. It's right off of I-70. It's a whole city block of bars that face into an inner courtyard. They have a bar for any taste. Umm historical sites....we have alot of fountains lol. Can't help you on that one. Btw if you go to bryants, the one downtown is the best imo but it's kinda in a bad part of town. I believe there is one at one of the casinos off of 435 and 210, can't remember right now.

Cool thanks! Gonna try to get to downtown but depends on how caught up we get in other stuff. Definitely hittin up every bbq joint i can handle. My wife will be in a conference most of the time so I'll be on my own and probably won't stray too far.

KC is great. I moved here about 6 months ago and it is just starting to feel like home.

With respect to restaurants, I think the poster above was referring to Jack Stack, not Smoke Stack. There is a barbecue place called Smoke Stack, but it would be out of your way while there is a Jack Stack located in the plaza. My favorite barbecue place is Gates Barbecue. Their burnt ends are amazing! The closest one to the Plaza would be on Main. It would be about a 5 to 10 minute drive from your hotel.

If you and your wife want to go to an amazing nonbarbecue restaurant, I highly recommend Le Fou Frog (http://www.lefoufrog.com/). It is a great, chill french restaurant. It has everything from steak to some of the more adventurous french dishes. If you and your wife have time for breakfast, Classic Cup has amazing breakfast and a damn good bloody mary.
If you want some exposure to culture, the Nelson-Atkins museum has a great collection of of paintings and a first rate outdoor sculpture park (www.nelson-atkins.org). It would be about a 20 minute walk from your hotel.

As for nightlife, the Power and Light District is a good time. (www.powerandlightdistrict.com). However, you should check the entertainment schedule to make sure you don't despise the scheduled bands. Sometimes they have country acts, sometimes pop, and sometimes rap. If you want a more traditional nightlife experience (i.e., bars) you will want to check out the Westport area. It's about ten blocks north of your hotel, but if you are there after dark, make sure to take a cab back to avoid ruffians.

If you want to know anything else about KC or want some more recommendations shoot me a PM, and I will be happy to help you out.

Thanks for the tips! We found the Jack Stack yesterday and it was pretty good, we ended up having dinner at Baja 600 which was pretty good too. Today we're off to Westport and got a cab on the way.. already seen two Ferrari and one nice Aston droptop around the Plaza, that's always cool.
