Default Louisville, KY need some help

Hey guys I could use some help. My daily driven 2000 M6 LS1 TA my need a new heart. Just shy or 96000 miles. I was on my way home from work on the interstate~65mph, ran into some construction and slowed down to traffic speed~45mph. I was cruising along, then the car backfired and I had a loud knock. No change in oil pressure.

I get the car towed home and I pulled the valve covers this morning. I don't see anything up top. I bumped the motor over, all rocker arms move, compress springs and no noise. I think the knock is in the block. I want to save the block, so I don't want to start up and cause more damage. What I can remember the noise seemed to corrdinate with the rpms.

Any suggestions on problem? I am going to call locally and get some quotes, but no saying I may try to tackle this myself and save some greenbacks.

Anybody in Louisville, KY area know a reliable shop? I also posted in internal engine. Thanks for the help techers.
