Default Buying a car out-of-state from a private party in Illinois

Hi! I am a resident of Wisconsin. I am planning to buy a car from a private party in Illinois. If my seller takes off the plates, and provides me with a signed title, will i have any trouble crossing to the wisconsin border.

I believe I am fine driving in wisconsin for the first couple of days, but no sure about an non-resident driving in Illinois without license plates to Wisconsin. I heard I need to apply for an 7 day interstate trip permit or something - but don't know if it's a necessity.

Thanks,
Amit

I bought a ohio car with ohio license plates. You just have to have the signed bill of sale on you. You can make your own or download one off the internet. Call your insurance and give them the vin number and have them email or fax you a document showing you have insurance on the car.

You get pulled over you show the bill of sale, the title if the seller gave you one, your insurance information.
