Thumbs up 5.0 Mustang and Mustang Dyno are teaming up for a 5.0/4.6 Dyno Day at EPP!

Basic Vehicle Requirements

Dyno-Day is for Ford Mustang Vehicles only. Employees of Mustang Dynamometer and Primedia Publications, and their families, are not eligible for this competition. Participant Shop owners, employees and their families are not eligible for this competition. All competitors must have current street registration, a legal rear license plate with current registration decal, current proof of insurance, and a current driver's license. No dealer or manufacturer plates allowed. The VIN on the car must match the VIN on all associated paperwork. The following are required: working headlights, tail-lights, brake lights, turn signals, horn, and a safety-glass windshield.
Carpet covering the full floor and tunnel ahead of the rear edge of the front seats; upholstered door panels; a full OE dashboard frame; upholstered driver and passenger seats in stock locations; and a steering column in the conventional location.

The vehicle must have a full exhaust with muffler and complete body and floor-pan. Lightweight body panels limited to fenders, hood and deck lid or hatch. Radial tires and drag radials acceptable, slicks prohibited and tires must fit under fenders. No stand alone engine management systems are allowed - original factory engine control systems and carburetors only. Custom tuning is allowed, however, no tuning is allowed after the vehicle has been strapped to the dyno.

The engine block must be in stock condition. Power adder modifications must be limited to the intake, filters, injectors, fuel supply system, pulleys, spark plugs, forced induction, forced induction control, nitrous injection, premium fuel, powertrain upgrades, custom tuning, exhaust, brakes and suspension.

Working on vehicles in any fashion while the vehicle is strapped to the dynamometer will result in disqualification.

Testing Integrity

Each and every dynamometer used to test vehicles will be thoroughly inspected prior to the competition to insure the highest degree of accuracy and to establish a fair and uniform playing field. The software used to perform the tests is tamper-proof. Moreover, every test will be corrected to prevailing atmospheric conditions at the facility performing the tests.

Only reputable businesses have been hand selected to participate in Dyno-Day. The organizers and participant shops are dedicated to making this event fun, fair and enjoyable. We invite you to contact us at 888-468-7826, ext. 209 if you have questions.

Determining Winners

Participant shops establish their own rules as it concerns operation of the vehicles being tested – some shops permit self operation while others will operate your vehicle for you. Each test session consists of two pulls. Each participant vehicle is allowed only one test session during the event – evidence of multiple sessions is grounds for disqualification. The pull with the best result will be used for determining winners. However, both test results will be retained for tie-breaking purposes. The test gear and RPM range of the pull will be based on the customer’s discretion. However, tests of vehicles having a manual gearbox transmission must include a test window of at least 3000 RPM, whilst vehicles having an automatic transmission must test through a minimum RPM window of 2250 RPM. Only one gear can be used during the test. Any test having results that include a shift or change in gear will be cropped to include single gear test data. At the sole discretion of the participating shop, make-up pulls will be allowed as long as one of the first two pulls is discarded and only if the discarded pull is deemed non-representative. Test results will be corrected to SAE Correction Standards as outlined in SAE Standards. Vehicles will be judged based on the following formula,

Maximum Power + Average Power

For Example,

Maximum Horsepower = 520-hp
Average Horsepower = 410-hp

520 + 410 = 930

Tie will be broken as follows,

Results of second Pull
Coin flip
Note: Owners of Automatic Transmission equipped vehicles are encouraged to register with a participant shop that is an authorized Diablo Sport or SCT facility as this will allow the shop to “lock” the transmission into the desired test gear for the purpose of facilitating a wider RPM band for testing.

Classes

4.6 Liter Engine
Naturally Aspirated – Those vehicles that have a stock 4.6 liter engine block. Shall not use a power adder.
One Power Adder – Same as above, but with one power adder.
Two Power Adders – Same as above but with two power adders.

5.0 Liter Engine
Naturally Aspirated – Those vehicles that have a stock 5.0 liter engine block. Shall not use a power adder.
One Power Adder – Same as above, but with one power adder.
Two Power Adders – Same as above but with two power adders.
A power adder is defined as a supercharger, one turbo or nitrous oxide injection. Two power adders is defined as using any combination of two power adders. All vehicles will be inspected by the participant shop prior to testing. The participant shop is solely responsible for classifying all participant vehicles. The decision of the participant shop is final.

Awards

Competition results will be analyzed by a joint committee of 5.0 Mustang and Superfords Magazine employees and Mustang Dynamometer employees. Winners will be contacted via telephone and awards will be sent to the participant shop where they can be picked up by the winners. Winners will be asked to return the shop where they were tested for photos and to receive their award.

Each Class winner will be awarded a trophy and other prizes to be determined at a later date. Each participant will receive a Dyno-Day T-shirt for participating. Some winners may be featured in 5.0 Mustang and Superfords Magazine. All winners will be featured on 5.0 Mustang and Superfords Magazine’s website, the Dyno-Day website and Mustang Dynamometer’s website. A comprehensive list of results and awards will be featured on the Dyno-Day website. Participant will be given the opportunity to post photos of their vehicle to the website along with a description of their vehicle.

The decision of the committee is final as it concerns determination of winners. Every effort will be made on the part of the committee to insure fairness and an even playing field.

Rates and Fees

The organizers of Dyno-Day have not set a standard price for participation. Fees will be charged by the participant shop in accordance with their standard dyno service fees. The cost to dyno test a car varies depending on a number of variables. Each Participant shop has establish a per vehicle price for participation based on prevailing dyno and labor rates in your area. Contact the participant shop nearest you for rate information.

When

I agree Joe, the 1/4 mile time and mph is the very best indicator. There are many people out there though, who want to know how much horsepower their cars have, and who never plan on getting on a track. It's a shame we don't have a track closer to the Fort, I do miss Avilla. Bob
