Default bad experience!! MN

well i figured i would share this!!

about 3 weeks ago i had DRM ( Doug Rippie Motorsports ) in buffalo MN tune my truck....

first drove there and told him what i had done to my truck....right after he began to rip on me for doing this to a lifted truck....then he went on saying i put a puny cam in my truck and was questioning all the things i did to my truck....

long story short it only took him 3 dyno pulls to get my truck fully tuned after all my mods....now i though that was not even close to enought time to get a proper tune....so i was like...fine what ever and payed him! left pissed...

2 weeks later ( last week) truck still runs like ****.... had a buddy Tom hook his HpTuners up and look at my tune....so we found out that the only think he tuned was the AF ratio.... also im getting 6-8 counts of knock and everything is all f-ed up in the tune!!

called DRM up and asked why he didnt change all this stuff.....and his only comment back was it never left my shop like that......he was the last person to touch the truck and i didnt mess with anyhting after he tuned it.....so then he hung up on me when i was in the middle of a question....

so after all that my buddy Tom got the truck running 20 times better then DRM did!! thanks Tom ( AKA Moddoo on performance trucks)

VERY VERY bad experience with DRM.. will never recomend him to anyone!

Damn dude that sucks. MNFbody usually goes there for a dyno/tune day in the spring. Everyone seems to be happy with him, but the way he treated you is horrible.

Sorry to hear that. Doug is usually a stand up guy. I now tune my own vehicles because it's much cheaper in the long run and I have complete control over the entire process.

I had him tune my SS after a small cam and headers. He never got it to idle. I went back 6 times and he kept making it worse. He also had me buy o2 sims (which I knew I should not need) and a new IAC.

Had it fixed by Hitech in Ramsey. Sold the 02 sims. Runs great now.

I wish I would have not wasted half my summer running back to Buffalo.

Rippie is a moron

Hitech guys are morons too. I took my boss' suburban there to get a CIA, tune and headers and they couldnt even install a CIA correctly. The bolts were loose, some werent even in the holes, and the tube connecting the TB to the airfilter was cut like an inch short and was just flopping around the engine bay by the time I got it back to Blaine. The chip they ordered for the truck was the wrong one, and it took 2 weeks to get it, and the header bolts were loose when I took the truck back to get the tune done.

I cannot speak about their (hitech) mechanical work. But I will say they know what they are doing as far as tuning. Rippie seems to have no clue.

Default Is there a good shop?

So if these places are questionable, are there any good shops near by.

wow man, that is rediculous. I was at the dyno day for MNfbody this spring.. he was all smiles and happy go lucky. He even gave me two extra pulls as we adjusted the fuel pressure regulator to get the AF right. Nothing but a great experience.

But, and this is a big but, I have heard otherwise of unhappy customers. I work in Buffalo, and very much in the car scene there. Unfortunately the customer service skills are severly lacking, as you experienced with the hanging up... that is just not right. But, who knows what he was experiencing that day... ya know? Still doesn't make it right. But, I have heard of people not happy with him or his work. It does suck, as you hate to dish out that much money only to not be happy, its very frustrating.

In the end, it looks like you got it figured out. I guess that is the important part. Too bad you cant get your money back though...

When I went there for the dyno day I was ripped on becuase I only had ported stock heads. Funny thing is, MY car was king of the dyno naturally aspirated, at 422rwhp and 420 rwtq. There was an identical motor there to mine, only he used AFR LT4 ported heads and intake. He was 15 horsepower short of my mark. I guess my point is, names dont mean ****, and peoples opinions dont mean ****. If your motor produces, you get the last laugh! I was chuckling the whole damn day!

If you need tuning on an LS1 I would go to Hitech, hands down. They have the most LS1 tuning experience in town.

Well I had my car tuned by DMR about a month ago and Doug is a great guy, all smiles when I was there. Maybe he was just having a bad day. I know that I will be going back after I get some gears.

You need a tune for your 98? I have EFILive.

My 98 is mostly stock but I'm always on the lookout for good shops. I don't need a tune. All I have is a LM1. Hoping for a lid and headers/Y by spring. Do you like EFILive? I'm curious about playing with tuning.
