Default '07 Open House Thread...

OK, I know it is early, but I need something to look forward to and get me through this winter. My car will be ready this year and I intend on bringing it to as many open houses as possible this year. It has been about 3 years since I have been able to do this. So do any of you local to Chicago area in particular (but since this is MW I am sure others would like to know thier local shop dates too) shops have any idea of dates yet?

I'm looking forward to the open houses as well.

I'll bring my camcorder and shoot video's of them again this year.

I'm sure they will but unfortunitly every year it's shorter and shorter. The cops use to be more laid back but now they jump over there as soon as it starts.

Maybe they can announce the date descretely. Like via e-mail or PMs to avoid it being too public. I don't know, just an idea. I don't know why they have such a big problem. The other businesses are closed and almost no traffic goes through. I get more worried about the idiots standing in the street while someone is blasting through. Or the one year that tool was doing doughnuts in the middle of the street with cars parked near.

I never understood why Speed Inc didn't just let people do the burnouts in their parking lot out back. Its private property (I assume) and theres plenty of room. Hell, I even have a steel plate I could bring so the pavement didn't get screwed up.

We are looking at April 14th or 21st.

burnout contest : We do not officially have a contest, but we can not control what everyone happens to do out front.
We are cool with it, but the law hasn't been happy the last 2 years.

parking lot : thought about that , but again we do not want to promote burn outs and have the liability of someone getting hurt or damaging property.

it's always a good time either way and hope to see everyone soon

We will post within the next 2 weeks a firm date. We just want to see a break in the weather.

Sorry that's right, Speed Inc. does not have a burnout contest. We as individuals can do whatever we want at our own risk.
I was about to say the same thing about the burnouts in your lot. The last thing you want is to lose your company over a lawsuit like that.

The comment made about about the cops. Honestly I can't say I blame them. With all the people standing so close, just imagine if someone got killed. The public would go crazy saying the cops weren't doing thier jobs and such to prevent it from happening. I think they are just covering themselves personally and I can respect that. Of course I wish they didn't know it was going on so they wouldn't come by.

Honestly I think you're better off having a "contest" on your property where you can set the rules and have participants sign a disclaimer. Even if you don't "own" the street where everyone does it anyway you can still be sued if someone gets hurt.

I dunno, just thinking out loud so we can actually enjoy the festivities instead of watching the cops bust everyone.
