i just got a ticket about a mouth ago for window tint. the cop said that you cant have any kinda window tint on the frount 3 windows. but he said as long as i get it taken off befor my court date and have pics of it and take the pics to court with me there will be no charges. so im taking it off and going to get my windows retinted once i find a beater car. my titnt was in bad shape anyways so its no big deal.

No covers of any type are allowed on lisence plates in Illinois, be they clear, smoked, or otherwise. How come you guys just want to bait the cops into giving you tickets. I know it looks cool but it's a reason to be harassed and issued tickets. Maybe I'm just old but it seems to be a silly proposition. Smoke windows get ticket. When the cop can't see into the vehicle he gets REAL nervous. That's why there is the law, not because the legislators are ******.

Another thing that plays into that is that people cant drive worth a crap when they can see where their going. Most dont have enough sense to roll the tinted windows down when its dark, and hit all kinds of crap.

I'm not a cop but I have relatives and friends that are and were. You are all good guys just like me but there are ********* out there that pose a real risk to cops when they are pulled over. Remember when the cops always say "Put your hands where I can see them?". There's a reason for that. Hey Martha, I had tints too and couldn't see **** at night. They're great on a really sunny day though.

i like tinted windows i think they look really good. and i will agree with it alittle harder at night to see. but most of the time i drive with my windows down at night and during the day. its not that i want to be agenst the law its just what i like.

As much as I love dark tinted windows, I'll be keeping my tint legal when I get it done next weekend. I seem to attract enough attention driving a bright red GTO.

lol- I was thinking the same thing and no I'm not a cop either. It's simply more trouble than it's worth imo. When I bought my car the previous owner had the sides tinted pretty dark. I planned to take it off for the very reason of not wanting to attract attention. Unfortunatley I got a ticket before I got around to removing the tint. $50 fine despite bringing dated pictures of the windows with the tint removed to court. So don't count on that working all the time, just depends on the judge. I still have the rear window tinted limo black. I think the car still looks just as nice and I don't have to worry about looking out for cops when I'm driving around. These type of cars attract enough attention on thier own without adding to it.
Maybe I'm just old too.

I agree about the attracting attention issue though. That is why my windows are not tinted, and my cars all have front plates. This seems to work well, because no matter how loud the exhaust has been on my F-bodies (cam, headers, ORY, loud catback), the lack of tint and the properly mounted front plate always seem to keep the cops happy enough. Never once have I been hassled about loud exhaust.

I guess they figure 2 out of 3 aint bad.

I just got a ticket 15 minutes ago for my tint. New Lenox cop and he was a *****! He said anything I want on the back (I have 5%), but nothing on the sides (I have 20%) and only 6" on the top part of the windshield (Mine is about 10-12").

20% on the sides!!! and you still got a ticket? Dammit! I see cars with limo tint all the time.

Hey Matt and Jacob, how hard is it to see out of the back at night with 5%? Im not sure if i should go 5%,10%, or 15%. Matt i'll be going to outlaw next week to get my exhaust slapped on, so i hope you're car will be there.

With 5% in the back at night in a dark lot, you can't see ****. You gotta do an ace ventura out the side window if you wanna be sure.

I used to get pulled over once a year for 20% tint on the sides (mind you I don't drive the car much). After the 2nd ticket I just took the side tint off. I usually drive with my fronts down anyways.
