Default Harley Guys in Ohio

hey guys,

now that its starting to warm up a little bit, i hear bikes out everywhere!

I'm looking to get my first bike, and I don't want one of those damned crotch rockets like the rest of the 20-something year old guys usually want

I was looking to get a HD, but I don't want saddle bags or anything. Just a stripped down bike, just the basics

BUT I don't want it to be one of those stripped down old bikes that look like a little dirt bike

What should I go looking for? What should I expect to spend? I don't really want a new bike since this will be my first one, but i don't want a POS either.

Thanks guys!

i went to their webpage, that street bob is badass!

just what i'm looking for!

wonder how that thing sounds? think she'd rumble?

i've always heard not to get a loan to buy a bike, since then you have to carry full insurance on the bike which would be insanely high. BUT this was coming from a kid with a rocket...so maybe a HD would be cheaper??

advice?

It might be cheaper for a HD, but it will not be cheap. Probably due to the number of idiots that ride w/o protective gear, especially a helmet. Called organ donors by doctors & nurses, btw.

I'm one of those idiots. Anyway...The Streetbob is a very nice bike. 96" twin cam & 6 speed, comfortable position...overall looks bad ***. I ride an 07 Night Train. Same engine/transmission. Blacked out theme, just from the softtail family. I put 600 miles on it Saturday and have nearly 5,000 miles on it since February. You will love it. The H-D's are a little pricey but there's nothing else quite like them. If you want a Harley in your heart, don't settle for something else or you will be disappointed. As for insurance, I have a clean driving record and my 12 months full coverage with progressive was $515, $1000 deductibles though. I hate paying high prices for insurance, so if something does happen, I opt to pay the deductible instead. It's saved me money over the years.

Thanks a lot guys!

Since I'm new to bikes, so what should I look for, as far as year vs. price vs. mileage?

I don't know what is considered "high mileage" on a bike

Edwardswb - How does that 96" sound? I'd like to put a set of pipes on it has a nice deep rumble. is that motor big enough to do that?

dude...the 96" sounds incredible. It's got that signature Potato..Potato..Potato Harley note even with the stock exhaust (not loud, but everyone will know it's there) All the aftermarket options out turn it a different note, just like our car exhaust options. (mild to wild) Vance & Hines makes some nice exhausts for them and there's quite a few others to choose from. The 06 Streetbob has an 88" twin cam (1450cc) and a 6 speed. All of the 07 models have the fuel injected 96" twin cam (1584cc) and 6 speed. I would guess that the market for 06 and older is going to be pretty good right now due to the new engine/transmission in the 07s. You can get a good deal on just about anything if you are patient though. BUYER BEWARE!!! My Harley is the reason I don't have a 9 second street car right now. lol I am already planning a stroker kit for it.

$13885 for an '07 street bob, no '06's left over

i don't think a new bike would be a good idea for a first bike though. Or are the HD's harder to lay down than the stupid rockets?

Please don't go VRod. lol Check out the Dyna's. They are shweet. Look around, I guarantee you can find a nice 2006 street bob for a good price if that's what you really want. Have you ridden any bikes before? The only bike I owned previous to my new Night Train was a little Suzuki GN125 when I was like 13-14. I learned to ride on that out on gravel/dirt roads and also rode a few friend's crotch rockets here and there. This is the heaviest bike I've ever been on and after the first 2 hours on it I was handling it like a champ. There are motorcycle courses out there you can go to and they provide bikes for the class. They are VERY instructive and great for even experienced riders. I am never worried about laying my bike down no matter where I'm going or the weather conditions (I ride just about every day now) It's the other people on the road you have to watch for. Defensive driving is key. If you've never been on a bike and wondered why that F'ing biker is driving so aggressively...in some situations it's because "A good offense is the best defense." Anywho, don't mean to ramble. Good luck finding the bike you want and keep that **** upright.
