My friend gained about 2-3 cars after doing all the free mods to his 2000 Z28.
EGR, Screen off the maf, Free ram air, and throttle body bypass.
I do think that the 85mm MAF isn't doing you any good if you aren't tuned for it. Is it a Granatelli or a SLP? Sometimes people get results but sometimes it has the opposite affect.
I had a Granatelli on my 01 Ws6 and it seemed like it was doing something, but on my 1998 Z28 didn't notice anything at all.

itlnrob - Air is not going to get excessively hot passing by 3" of your throttle body. I've always kept the screen in the maf to correctly flow the air by the maf sensor. I know there is a good debate on keeping it and not. And the other two aren't going to make that much difference.
The key is driver mod.

hey pddye...would it be difficult to install a small little 100 shot or something? or is it just the same as a bigger kit with a smaller port size? i really didnt want to do nitrous seeing how my car is DD like the OP but it would be nice for those close call races.

It would be just the same. I like my wet kit but a lot of people like the dry kits. Just do some searching on the nitrous threads and all the info in the world seems to be in there. There are pros and cons on either but my opinion is that they are all very safe. Personally I like the micro switches better for Wide open throttle activation than the throttle position sensors just because I have a thing for mechanical switches instead of relying on electronics. But on my last kit setup I did use a MSD window switch for my cut in rpm and cut out rpm for a little saftey. I picked up the window switch at my local speed shop for a little over $100 so it is cheap insurance and easy to install.
I have always installed my own kits besides this latest car just because it came on the car but I'll probably go over all the wiring to make sure it's all up to snuff. They are all pretty self explanitory to install when you read up on them and ask questions.
If you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll try my best to answer or lead you to the right person.

If you are just using a Z06 Maf, you probably aren't gaining anything and might even be losing horsepower. The Maf has to be calibrated to make any type of gains and even then it doesn't always work.
Trust me man, put the stock maf in and don't look back.

The free ram air is just cutting some plastic off of the bottom lid air box and if you really want to get fancy you can make a metal tray for an air passage. Personally I wouldn't worry about the metal tray because your intake is going to pull air where ever it can. And for the EGR you can buy block off plates or make your own block off plates to stop your exhaust gas from going into your intake.
Also unless your car is running rich or lean with the new MAF it will not affect performance if anything it will gain because of more airflow. If you know anyone with a wideband hook it up and that will tell you in an instant. I've got an LM1 on my Trans am and It works pretty well.
itlnrob what does your car run in the quarter? i'm just a little curious.
