Default USAF UPT solo video

Just something I threw together is my extreme LACK of free time during pilot training.

Compilation of photo's we had during our traditional post solo dunk's. The water was COLD!!!

Oh yea and the tradition:
If the solo stud can get back to the flight room then every member of the flight owes him/her a CASE of beer (so a crap ton of beer). Thus why you see a lot of struggling going on in the pictures. You'd be amazed at what pilots/studs will attempt for copious amounts of beer...

A memorable quote from an old CO: "how do you look cool in a training aircraft?............you don't"

Thats cool that you guys made a class video though. My classes have all been too lazy to do anything like that. We have hours of footage from our weapons det this summer, but no one ever edited it to music.

Are you trying to get T-38's, or are you gonna be a T-1 sissy?

Other: probably gonna go UH-1's. The Osprey (CV-22) is really appealing to me.

Osprey's were my 2nd choice after jets. I'm glad I got the AV-8 though.

How do you like flying the T-6? I was one of the last guys to fly the T-34 for primary(UPT for Navy/Marines). The navy is now starting to class up guys in the T-6. I think it's a pretty badass little airplane, and I wouldn't mind doing an instructor tour in it.

Do you guys have Navy/Marine exchanges in columbus, or is that only in Vance? I know Navy/Marine students only go to Vance, but I didn't know if there were instructor exchanges.

I haven't seen any USN or USMC guys walking around. Most of our exchanges are international (we have 2x JASDF, 1x RJAF, 1x FAP in our class alone).

The T-6 is pretty **** hot. It is a rocket (relatively speaking) under 10k. Doesn't do so well above 15k, but not many turboprops do.

Only problem so far has been prop sleeve touch downs...which is unique only to the PT6-68A engine. The engineers thought it smarter to cut the engine down an inch and remove one of the oil points rather than design the airplane to be an inch bigger...so now we are stuck with PSTD (rare but they do happen). PSTD isn't a big deal, the turbine shaft touches the outside due to oil starvation (generally caused by spinning with the PCL above idle). You will get a CHIP light, but just come back for a PEL.

haha. Man that takes me back. The T-34 had a CHIP light, and it had a max of 8 minutes to live if you got one. PEL's were so easy in those airplanes. If your **** was fucked up, you just got to shoot one all encompasing emergency approach. Do you do your's at idle power?

The Harrier has a minimum of 6 different types of landings to do based on the emergency your dealing with.

Nice vid Neil! Makes me wish that when I solo'd I had time to put together something like that.

Situation for the day
Alright, today you woke up out of bed to look out your window and see your dog got hit by a Mustang, you tried starting your Vette, but the LED lights in your rear-view mirror has left your battery dead again, and you end up getting a jump from your Trail-Blazer. You get to work, only to find one parking spot 1 mile away from the squadron so small you have to roll down the window and get out "Dukes of Hazzard" style. You're late to your brief, and your IP tells you to hurry up to make the takeoff time for your area solo. You get airborne and you start feeling hypoxic, due to years of viagra usage and rogane you've lost all feeling in the left side of your body. You look down and see a canopy light, a chip light, and somehow your nose gear is stuck down and can't retract, and you can't change the gear position all while you hear ATC call out "Attention all 14th FTW aircraft..." and goes blank as you now are Nordo.

Lt Brinkworth, you have the aircraft...

We do it at 4-6% which is the equivalent of feathered.

Yea PEL's and SFL's are fairly straight forward in this jet too. High key, low key, base key. If you can just fly the numbers and there isn't a 20+ kias wind then there is really no excuse to not end up somewhere on the runway.

Well I will start by pulling a "Shrader" and take 2 hours to do a stand up for a gear malfunction...

Then I will make sure my class patch arrives two days AFTER track select...

Afterward, I will make sure my Class/CC loathes me for no reason...

On short final (during a check ride) I will have a class mate take the active (without clearance) and have to go around...
