So I'm deploying to a location with WiFi. Can I get on XBOX Live?

I am actually fairly new to Xbox live as I've only played it for a short time on a good connection. Will having a less than good connection just kick me off a lot? Or will it slow down game play?
I am trying to figure out if it would be worth renewing my subscription or not.

Depending on the location, how they get you to the internet and so on. Places like Kandahar that use SATCOM to hook you to the internet will most assuredly not be worth the money. Some places in Kuwait that have high-speed internet via cables should be worth your time. Chances are that in places throughout Afghanistan are NOT worth it at all. If you are going to use Live while out there, play your games and link them to the servers on Silver and call it good until you get back home. Then make up for lost time and achievements when you get back.

Where I was at in Afghanistan, we were lucky enough to have wi-fi, but the most I could pump out of that thing was about 50 kbps. FYI. That's worse than dial up @ 90$ a month.

Manually configure your xbox's MAC address to be identical to your PC's
Login to your service provider's service on your laptop then quickly disable your network adapter.
Quickly power on your xbox and connect to the network.
The server should recognize the MAC address and not require login if the switch is completed quickly.
I did this at Camp Cedar II, Iraq (over Ethernet). Nothing was really usable on XBL. I joined CoD matches to lag and frustrate people.
WORTH A SHOT!
