Anyone here been in the Coast Guard?

there's 5 or 6 fbodies(LT1 or LS1) on base, most at AR&SC. I want to see the Z, looks frickin' nice. You'll normally see the trans when you pass by building 55(C-130 hanger).
Josh_101 if you ever want a look see of the airstation, let me know. No temptation, it took me a little thinking about what I wanted to do.

The EPO at the small boat station at E-City is a good friend of mine, talked him into getting a new camaro when they come out

There are a couple of f-bodies here already. Me, a 97SS, and an 02hawk at the airstation. A 98+WS6 and SS at ARSC, and 06GTO that's about it. There aren't but a handful in town though, but still not a bad unit. The track will be openning up about the time you report... Just in time to see what my 9inch will do. hehehe I am curious about the new camaro and really want to see one.

Hey Josh_101, you're right. I almost stopped to look at it the other day, but was on my way to work. I want that color bad, see if they'll trade me. There are 2 others, one identical to me but faster(N2O) and a 500hp SS.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing. Well sort of, I'd be transferring from the air force to the cg. I want to do the MK job too. Anyone in here do that??? I just want to get all the info before I make a big change like this. I also want to go to NC, the Emerald Island boat station is where i wanna go, but anywhere in NC is fine by me.

There's a guy I work with that just transferred from the Air Force to the CG. He's still aviation instead of lateralling jobs and on C-130s. The CG doesn't have the amount of aircraft the Air Force does by a long shot. And are only like 20 or so airstations in the CG. If you got guarenteed District 5, there are only 2 airstations. Atlantic City NJ and Elizabeth City,NC which is where I'm at.

Anyway, the aviation and boat sides of the CG are quite a bit different. There are lots of boat stations in DEL/MAR/VA/NC...pretty much anywhere. Get with your recruiter and have him explain guarenteed district.

Yea I talked to a recruiter out here allready, they explained it all basically. I won't be able to to anything really until I'm totally seperated from the airforce. The job I have now won't cross over into the CG, so I'm gonna have to do something different. I used to work at a marina before I joined and loved it so I'm thinking MK might be for me. I was just wondering what to expect, but from what I heard it depends on wheather your on a cutter or a small boat station. Def don't want to be on a boat for months at a time tho... Any Info is appreciated.

Good luck in your career change.
I can't help you much on what the CG is like now-a-days (post 9-11) cause I retired in May '98. But, I joined in '73, did 8 years then got out for almost 5 years. Then I came back in to get that retirement and it has to be the best move I've ever done. I enjoyed the CG because of the 'family' atmosphere, and I still have a lot of friends that are active. They tell me the roles of the service changed since 9-11, but the jobs are still about the same. I spent 11 years on Reliant class cutters (Diligence-Dauntless-Dependable-Valiant-then on the Dauntless again), but you don't have to worry about the months at sea at a time. I think the most we ever were away from home port was 52 days because of Reftra (happens about once every other year or so). Other than that, almost never over 45 day away from home. Hope this helps you out.

Ther really isn't anything about sea marshalls. Boarding teams at boat stations and on cutters, there are alot of rates that do that though. Boatswain's Mate BM, Store Keeper SK, Gunner's Mate GM, Machinery Technician MK, Etc... almost anyone on a boat can do that. If your looking for general law inforcement, then I would recommend GM or BM.
