I understand your frustration since you dont have a background in the military. What are your interests? I am in the USAF (12yrs) and believe me, flying isnt all its cracked up to be. Long hours mission planning, flying long missions, then more time debriefing afterwards (not to mention you will get additional duties when you arent flying). Also, flying come with a HUGE service commitment, so you better love doing it...I am sure it sounds great on paper, but there are many other jobs out there.

i was speaking more of the lingo as in....

NCO's
(P.O.G.S)
i will start off as an 0-1 but will move to o-2 in one year
i am a Cpl (E-4)

some of the abbreviations I understand but not all

I understand that the E-4
O-1 and 0-2
are ranks but dont know the "requirements"
or how high/low the ranks mean

Now your getting into ranks....all this you will get drilled into you no matter which service you go into. If you do want to get some up close and personal knowledge of what its like short of actually doing it, visit a base, fort, reserve unit in your area, ask to speak with the officers. Honestly the recruiter is there to help you with this stuff. If you don`t like the recruiter you started with ask to talk to a different one. There are officers in charge of the recruiters that will have to interview you before your Officers board. Just remember that each person has their own story but you will have to deal with a recruiter of some kind thats what they are there for.
NCO- Non commisioned officer

Only true if you're non-rated, with the exception being recce navs. Pilots are fine.

Look here for some basic information. A lot of what has been stated will make much more sense afterwards.

The USAF is looking at specific AFSCs in specific year groups to meet the Force Shaping goals. I think I remember seing some pilots (helo's) as well. I deleted the email since my yeargroup was exempted.

Either way, it has no bearing on folks just coming in.
