If you aren't a sh*t bag, it only takes a year an a half. Which is better than other branches. In the AF it can take twice as long if I remember correctly. What's the rush? You have to do your time as a private so you understand what your job is when you do get rank.

yeah and if youre really highspeed or they need it they can let you skip specialist and go to corporal. My buddy is a tanker and got corporal in Iraq because his tank commander died and they needed him to take charge and he was right at the 18 month in rank time
for the AF its either

yeah you can be busted down but only usually if you do something bad. I had a DS that was busted from e6 to e2 for sleeping with a private and got kicked off the trail

There was E9 out here in balad that got busted to E4 because he was caught with child pornography among other things and is currently riding out his time in Leavenworth...good times

They won't knock an E9 to E4. They might take away his star and drop him to E8, but most likely they would force retire him. I've seen worse **** happen and the E8 just lost his company then was force retired when he got home. It takes an act of congress months just to take away an E7's rocker, it'd take even longer to do something to a guy that can retire. So to make it easy, they just make him retire.
