Anyone invest deployment cash?
Hey guys, I'm going to start my second tour soon and don't want to blow all the cash. Last time I went I bought my Camaro, mods,a daily driver, and paid some old bills, this time I want to be a little wiser.
So, tell me what you did. Anyone play the stock markett? Put back into TSP or a ROTH IRA? I'm looking to invest short term but I have no idea what I'm doing in terms of what to invest in.
I've thought of gold, but seems to be long term. I've thought of EXXON Mobile, but I'm praying the fuel costs stabilize. I've also heard to take a look at (eek) Ford.
Trust me it's awfully damn tempting to buy some sick crate 427 or something, but again, I'd like to see if I can make a relatively quick (1-2 years) profit (any profit would be nice at this point) on investing.

Max out the Roth first, then put in whatever the max the gov will match in TSP (probably 5%), then start another investment account. Go ahead and pick some fairly aggressive mutual funds for all of them (keeping the TSP just high enough to get matching is the way to go because you are severely limited with few choices on where to put the money)
Sit on them for 30 years and retire 5 years earlier than you would have!

I sugest doing something long term like a few of the posts above. I have been pumping money into a mutual fund for about a year and a half. More will be going into it when I deploy again in a bit.

Definetly max out the Roth IRA. Pay off any debt. Then invest some more. Don't forget to make sure you have 6-8 months of pay in your savings too. It takes restraint not to touch it but really comes through in a crisis.
