Default FMF Docs or Marines.. Advice please!

Ive been in the Navy for 3 years now as an Active duty AD.. I hated it. Turning wrenches on my Car is one thing. Doing it as a living is another.. It has its moments but its not for me..

Ive always had a huge respect for the Hm's.. It wasn't untill Training for this IA assignment (And doing the simple Combat life saver the Army offered) I figured out that I had such a strong desire to be A Greenside HM.

Im in Iraq now, It's nothing like outside of the wire work the Feild medics see of course, but its a somewhat feel for the work.

Im looking for advice from Docs, Or Marines to help me get A better picture.

Whats life like day to day with a Grunt unit while not deployed and deployed.

Im A fleet returnee coming off an IA assignment.. Any chance Ill get to pick at least Coast choice orders?

Any advice on decent places to be stationed?

My NC1 isn't really giving me much advice to work with.. Anything at all would greatly help!!

Any good Marine unit treats their Docs like gold. If you ever buy your own beer, you went to the wrong unit. If you have what it takes to be a Doc then go for it. My last station was Camp Pendleton and I loved it there.

Surface IDC here. Currently with the Seabee's.

Marine duty can be fun. But, I will warn you now. Cross-rating to Corpsman won't be easy to do. Mostly due to CREO grouping. (Probably why your NC1 is being a little hesitant.)

To get started, I would look into the SCORE program:
http://buperscd.technology.navy.mil/...s/1160-090.PDF

Once you get through "A" school getting to a FMF unit within your first or second duty stations shouldn't be an issue.

If you need any info, or have more specific questions, let me know.
