Oh, the army will coddle screwups like that and keep them around too. They will give them counseling statement after counseling statement, take some money and rank (if they have any) from time to time, rarely send them for a psych eval, and in the worst cases send their problem to another unit for them to deal with the problem.

If you feel ambitious enough to sit down person to person and see if you can pull a miracle out of this one go for it. It's a tough call whether or not any military behavioral health specialist will take the time to give her the help she needs...or just pencil-whip her on out of their hair with a snap diagnosis. Ultimately you know she is hampering your team's readiness as things are now.

As far as advice you have a NCO support chain to help you out.
I hear ya 100%. Leader subordinate issues never aired. Its just not what professional military people do. But I guess AF do things different.

It just seems that nobody from my supervisor all the way up to the commander is doing anything about the situation. Maybe you can help me out since you are such a great leader there drill sergeant.
Why don't you post this on the AF version of a military online community. I am sure the AF NCO's would give you some good mentorship.
Btw I know you and will probably meet you sooner or later. Hopefully you seek leadership guidance for your particular situation.

We had a "special troop", we couldn't get through to him. So, my buddy got tired of it and called the kid's mother. She was mad! She called up her son and laid into him over the phone. He came in the next day and could not believe that his mom was called. He straightened up though. Any time he got out of line we would threaten to call his mom again.

I still think you guys are ridiculous with your "leader subordinate issues never aired". I can see if I named names or if I was talking to someone that might have a clue of who I'm talking about but some random people on the internet, come on. Also I posted this here just to vent. I'm not really looking for help. I have done everything I was trained to do in a situation like this and even everything that I as a good hearted person thinks should be done. I've sat her down and had a person to person talk and asked what's going on in her world. That didn't help. The commander is working on her seperation right now though. I just hope she doesn't go to a phsyc board and that she is messed up and medically retire her and give her a paycheck for the rest of her life. Oh and how do you know me Roy?

When I was in Fallujah, some reservist did something like that. He was at an out post and I guess he decided he had enough. Threw down all his gear (flack, kevlar, rifle, ect), put on his boonie, and took a walk out in the desert. They found him out alone in the desert sleeping under a bush or something. I can't believe he survived. Given, it was mid 2006, so it was nowhere near as crazy there in Falujah as it was in 03-05, but still, we were getting into it there on occasion. I'll never forget that day that just about EVERY piece of coalition equipment was out looking for this kid. Never did find out what happened to him, but I suspect he spent a bit of time in jail.... And probably lost a good chunk of his hearing from all the *** chewings he got.

this guy flat out told some people on guard that he was going to leave. everyone thought he wasn't being serious... not sure why anyone wouldn't take something like that serious but hey not everyone's got common sense.

sure enough he walked right past the front gate of the base (my guess is someone knew what he was doing). they knew something was up when he didn't show up for post.

We've all seen this for my last 20, nothing different if you put it in perspective. This has always happened. Rid yourself of trying to get her to perform, she won't. Just turn her off. Someone needs to assign what we call a chapter monkey to this idiot, and thats the only person she'll talk to until she is finally chaptered out of the service and arrives at Ft. Living Room with a dumb as excuse for why she's home and out of the service.

Did you call her mother? If you're a sick sadistic type, call her mother and talk to her about Sally scissor head and her antics. She may turn around, or she made get worse. At least you informed the home front that their idiot will be returning and the reasons why. The sad thing is, some parents don't give a **** as well. I had a mom call Ft. Benning 10 years back when I was a drill sergeant. Some idiot allowed us to start a company of recruits 4 weeks before Christmas. So, four cats didn't show up on 3 Jan! A week after the fact this chick calls. If any of you remember basic training, everyone coughed the first month or so......you could hear this kid coughing in the background as his mom told this rediculous story how he had been abducted and didn't remember being in the Army. blah blah blah, the story is deeper and even more stupid than what I can type....you get the jackassery here.

Keep doing what you do and ignore jackasses like her.

Thanks for your service!!!

I had an E-3 who totaled his Mustang while speeding in the rain, then totalled his wife's Mustang while speeding a month later, then finally got arrested after a 6 mile chase when he was speeding in the beater Sentra that he bought. Police found nunchucks and 2 sai swords in the back. He ended up checking into jail every weekend for a year as part of his probation/sentencing for concealed weapons possession and running from the police.

I counseled him and got him to put out a good work effort as long as I was his supervisor. When I was getting out the Navy he popped positive for E and I'm not sure what became of it.

Moral of the story: A good leader can reach anyone, but you cannot polish a turd!

That girl is pathetic;I'd rather have been shot than to pus out of basic. What happened to "can't adjust to military life" ...is it that hard to discharge a trainee nowadays? Good luck!

i cant really speak for talking to lower enlisted but i know the metality for higher ups is: dont ruin my career and i wont ruin yours. there was the WO that my whole team hated but everyone just said "it wont be our problem when we leave" pissed me off. Im amazed at how we are still a military might, unless its different when **** hits the fan, most people are retarded. i know im going to get hardcore flamed for this but coming back on a plane from overseas the infantry support company we were with were embrassing and downright rude at every airport we stopped at, no wonder their Top yelled all the time.

wow that's pretty funny. we've had a couple of these "special troops". one is still on his way out, and his story is 10x better. no one can believe the things he's accomplished lol. others have left within a month or two. they don't last long here.
