Default VA disability calculations

Ok im posting this here to show pepole how the VA system works. I just got out of a breifing on friday so its still pretty fresh

Say you got 3 disabilitys. PTSD, bad back and neck problems

Exsample
PTSD 20%
Back 30%
Neck 10%

So you think you would get 60% disability rates? nope wrong! What they do to save millions a year is they depreicate your disabilitys as they go down the list. You get the full disability for 1 claim but on the 2nd they take away 10% from the number and on the 3rd they take away 20% if you have a 4th they would take away 30% and so on and so on. Heres a chart on how it works

PTSD 20%-20%

Back 30% (30 - 10%= 27) 27%

Neck 10% (10 - 20%=8) 8%

20+27+8= 55 So you think they would round it up? WRONG even if it was 59 you would still only get 50% the VA only rounds down

(Sevrance Pay on next post)

Sevrance pays is the best part of medical board for some pepole. How Sevrence pay works is Base pay X2 X years in service so lets use me for an exsample my base pays 1985 X2= 3970 the X3 for 3 years time in service and you get $11,910.

Ok but this isent "free" Like above the disabilty checks you get monthly. You wont get them until they pay off your sevrence pay. So say i get 900 a month it would take me over a year to get my 1st VA check other then the sevrence pay.

Also they do have a $15,000 settlement which you forfit all VA benifits but dont get monthly checks if your med boarded out. recomended if you get a very low percentage such as 20% i belive its only like 200 a month

Imagine the mods you could do with that kinda lump sum. Well if your in the same boat im in. 21 single going to Nascar Tech in AUG 09 when the new GI bill kicks in. They will pay for the whole school and give you E-5 BAH with 1 dependent while attending school OOO yea!!

I'd gladly trade my 20% in for a back that doesn't hurt all the time.
