my 69 has almost the same setup with cal trac bars, 4.10 gears, 12 bolt and Mickey Thompson sportsman S/R radial tires and hooks pretty good without the aid of VHT and i'd say mine has a little more power than that one did. but i can see why they would want to prep it, never hurts to be safe. i kinda wish we took the time to do that around here.
