Found out a little more on the problem...
A blown piston ringland led to piston ring fail. That usually means detonation, but for some reason the motor never pulled the correct amount of timing to protect itself.

Video will be down for a little while, due to some Warranty issues with Ford.
Nobody really knows yet.
Ford has agreed to provide him a Brand new motor with free labor putting it in though. The only catch is, that from now on his warranty is void.

Been there done that with mt HHR SS. I did a little bit modding and it blew up. They fixed it but voided my warranty but then again it is now up to the dealer so it's a semi warranty. The service manager decides what to warranty. Im building a repore with them by letting them fix stuff thats not a warranty issue and paying for it. Might help your friend to do the same.

Clear up the original post. Link not working there. Sucks to have to scroll 2 pages to see the video. Ford not wanting to warranty a crate engine Ford you fail.

Thanks for the link with the owners explanation.
I was very curious; as I'm sure everybody else was to what would cause the failure with the car having just a few bolt ons and still N/A.
