Default Clay Bar and Wax: GTO

Since the weather has been nice, I decided to do my pre-Winter clay bar and wax job. I used Clay Magic clay bar and Mother's 3-step sealant and wax with a random orbital. I did this twice a year with my old SOM SS, so I decided to pick the habit back up for the GTO. Enjoy!

I am noticing a strange occurence on LS1tech as of late, all these detail products people are raving about almost seems like a paid infomercial. Creative advertising? That being said, your GTO looks clean, nice detail job.

Thanks. I only throw in the products used in case someone wants to know. Now they don't have to ask!

Nice work. I've moved away from clay bars 'cuz they always seem to leave a clay haze in the paint. Saw a "clay in a bottle" product, don't remember who's, that we may try next. Hopefully, it won't haze like a clay bar does.

Thanks for the pics!

You might need to use a little more clay lube, try ONR or some other "detailers" spray. Also some brands of clay are a little more prone to streaking and breaking down. Mothers is probably the best easily accessible brand. Also don't use a mix of water and car wash soap as lubricant it will break down the bar even faster and cause similar problems.

When done claying if you see a bit of haze here and there, take a mix of water/91% rubbing alc and spray it, then wipe it off with a clean microfiber before your next step.

Thanks guys, and nice tips DannoWS6. I have seen people have issues with clay bars if they do not get all the soap off of their paint first.

very nice! my T/A is black which looks amazing after a clay bar/polish/wax/ and light buffing job but that only last about 30min due to my car being a dirt magnet. as for the "liquid clay" it sucks. the secret to the clay bar is that is "up lifts" the dirt inside the tiny pits in your clear coat. the liquid will just fill-in the pits with a clay substance, it can actually make it harder to wax because if your "liquid clay" and your "wax" are to different chemicals (that cant be combined), it will be extremely hard to get the "hazing swirl marks" off the car. trust me ive made this mistake years ago. i mixed synthetic polish with carnauba wax and i spent hours trying to get the swirl off the car.

Thanks for the heads up on liquid clay & also to Danno for the advice on how to control the clay "haze."

camaro_fiveO,

Your GTO reminded me of a friend who has a GTO & installed the Australian style gauge pods on the center of the dash (& the gauges face toward the driver). Best gauge pod mod I've seen. It looks great. Many car people, settle for A-pillar gauge set ups, which looks like **** if you ask me. Thought that his was/is cool & different. Anyway, kind of off topic, but, wanted to mention it.

Thanks guys. And jmurray, you will not be disappointed with a GTO. I think my SS was a little bit faster than my GTO, but the ride doesn't even compare. The GTO is so much more refined, and comfortable as hell to drive!
