I need to try that someday Just not a wave like that. Is it hard to do? small waves i mean.

It's not very hard. You just have to have alot of balance. It's addicting, as soon as you get up for the first time, you're gonna want to go get another one and if you're anything like me, you will end up buying your own board. (I borrowed a friends board the first time I went surfing)

To me, it was a lot like learning to ride a bicycle. Hard, until it "clicks", then you'll never forget how to do it. Once you're up and surfing, it's a piece of cake - that transition from paddling to standing in the right spot was the hardest for me.

We have very small waves up here - there is a very short amount of time you have to paddle, catch and standup, before the wave loses power. That makes it a bit harder to do, but the waves are much easier to ride once you're up.

Deffinately not Mavericks. I live about 1 hour from Mavericks and it is not as far out as you would think. It does get real big and you would never find me in it. The wave also breaks a lot different than the one shown and you have to have a wet suit on as it is aprox 52-54* water.

If you ever get a chance to find the video Mavericks, check it out. They have people surfing 50+ foot faces.
