That would explain the rim color if they are.
They mention that the former steel parts of the C6 frame would be made from aluminum on the Z06, and a magnesium engine cradle replaces the aluminum one. Also the 'Roof structure' is now magnesium.
As for the rims from what i can find they're just Aluminum alloy rims (or whatever it's called), but if anyone else finds otherwise feel free to correct me.
Some other intresting stuff: Ceramic brakes (rotors) were planned for the Z06 but weren't used because of their cost, but will be a $4,000 upgrade once they fall to a cheap enough price to be marketed. From: Jan. issue of Motortrend.
Floor panels are made of balsa-wood sandwiched between layers of carbon fiber to increase strength and reduce weight. From: Jan. issue of Motortrend.
If you want to read up on it i'd request a January edition of Motortrend, they went into a lot more detail about weight savings and well...the car... than C&D did.
