when i was a police officer we were required to keep one in the tube at alll times. you are supposed to pull the clip, rack the slide back into the open(locked) position and stick your finger in the tube. that way if you dont see it you'll feel the bullet and then you wont release the slide and end up shooting yourself like that guy did.

A cop here got killed by another officer because he forgot about the one in the chamber. Everytime they leave a building and go onto the street they have to chamber a round. Well the one cop left the swat training build to get something from his car, swapped the mags and chambered a live round. Went back inside, swapped the mags again to blanks and rejoined the rest for training. The new guy stepped into the other guy's line of fire and the rest is history. Pretty sad, but even pro's make mistakes.

I suspect it might of been a blank. Any gun discharged in a room full of children would probably of caused panic and the checking of every single person, I doubt he would of been allowed continued the discussion. At the end he picked up some semi automatic and they all started shouting "put it down put it down" wusses!!!

I remember when I was 14 and I shot a hole through my wall with my dads .380 on accident. It did sound ALOT louder than that seemed. But I guess the camera cant record gunshots that well or something.

Old Army guy
Always inspect the chamber both visually and physically to ensure it is cleared. Keep weapon on safe , never squeeze trigger. That was a clear case of negilgent discharge. That is if this is a genuine video.

yeah when we film duck hunts you can barely hear the gunshots. I looked at the video trying to see recoil, but couldn't tell b/c the camera jumped. Was he limping though???

DEA Agent Shot During Gun Safety Class

ORLANDO, Fla. - A federal drug agent shot himself in the leg during a gun safety presentation to children in what police describe as an accident. His bosses, however, are still investigating the incident.

The Drug Enforcement Administration agent, whose name was not released, was speaking April 9 to about 50 adults and students organized by the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association, witnesses and police said.

He drew his .40-caliber duty weapon and removed the magazine, according to the police report. He then pulled back the slide and asked an audience member to look inside the gun and confirm it wasn't loaded.

Witnesses said when the agent released the slide, one shot fired into the top of his left thigh. The gun was pointed at the floor

The agent was treated at Orlando Regional Medical Center and returned to work, a DEA official said.
