I think all vehicles are modded a bit. I think the Bike let off because he saw a jet coming up fast. The jet that they were racing wasn't a very fast plane. Try a F-16, F-18 or F-22 with after burner and it would be over much sooner. Out at Luke AFB, they raced a Modded Viper against an F-16 and would not allow the F-16 to take off with afterburner. All in all it was ahead of the viper in the 1/2 mile..

Then we have to compare somethng that has traction on the ground to something with just air pushing it.

Thats not suprising at all, and nothing very special and why wouldnt they let him take off with the burner?
