at least the camaro had a V8 avalable all of its years and always had a more powerfull offering than ford. and this is just Chevy! pontiac was always more performance driven than chevy and has some more powerfull alternatives than the Camaro
so in my opinion the mustang did nothing for mucle cars for that time.

and i thought we were talking about mucle cars here. mustang 2 is not a proper mucle car, its basicly a pinto with a horse sticker to appeal to the younger generation.
and what ruling the streets is concerned, mustangs has been have sold better than F-bodys for decades. it still dont change the fact that stock for stock the f-body has always handed mustangs their asses on a plate what performance is concerned.
from 72-92 the F body averaged 247,000 where the mustang averaged only 183,000
