Default My buddies VR-4 part II

Here's a couple pics of a friend of mine's VR-4 he just got back on the road. He recently just got it tuned and put down 385AWHP (low boost) and is having it retuned the beginning of January for high boost (6lbs more) and methanol injection. He just won ride of the year on www.3si.org. I took these shots for his Import Culture feature and he is also being featured on www.dragva.com and possibly some magazine coverage. I'm pullin' for him.

Enjoy.

Like I said in the other post. That is one hot car. Congrats to your buddy on the car of the year. Not to mention you take some awesome pictures.

Thanks man. He's shooting for 500 to all 4 wheels.

The car weighs in @ 34XXlbs. It's ridiculous.

^ That's extremely light for a VR4. Generally they weigh 3800+ lbs (stock).

The car looks great except for the sloppy-fitting hood.

Yes he knows about the hood. It's a cheap hood (his words not mine). It cost like $600. I think he might get the Pit Road M hood which runs ~$1200.

i understand the perpose of those carbon fiber hoods are for weight reduction, but man... why cant they color match them.. reminds me of some good ol' boys from where i grew up who would always put on a fiberglass cowel hood and not paint it... looks like ****.

I already like the 3000GTs as they looked stock, but damn, that thing is gorgeous. Nothing like the riced-out base model 3kGTs I see around here.

I also agree with this. Paint the damn ****. OK, we get it: you have carbon fiber, congrats. And the peasants rejoice (and ricers jack off). It's cool to have, but looks about as cool unpainted as a nice car with a primered hood. Every damn Japo car has an unpainted carbon fiber hood nowadays anyways, so it's not even original and has totally lost the "Ohhh Ahhh"-factor. Paint it, make it look clean, and know that it still shaved some weight off while not looking gay.

Nice car, but all the lines and cleanliness are ruined by the hood.

Sorry for the late-night rant. When I'm tired, I usually get on a roll with rants.

I really can't tell you why he doesn't paint it. He may not have because he's buying a better quality hood I dunno. He also has a CF roof that replaces that heavy *** glass he had for his sunroof. The car has many custom one-off CF pieces. A local (well not anymore) guy made them for him. The roof, brake ducts, and gauge bezel are all CF and his is the first VR-4 with them. He's also the first person to ever use a STACK gauge cluster in a 3000GT.

I believe the 385 was made @ 16psi.

The 385whp was made at 1.1bar. Me ad Ritz are both friends of him (I was driving the truck when we took the rolling shots). I've ridden in it in its 385whp trim, and OH MY GOD the thing is a beast. He spins all 4 255/40/18's all the way through 1st, and chirps them going into second. There's so much work in the car its amazing, so many custom one off peices, and rare peices. It's been 2 years in the making transforming it froma stock green vr4 to what you see now.

The reason why people dont paint the hoods is because of costs, the hoods arent cheap and then painting them adds to the cost. Wich is they look decent un painted and then when you have money you can paint them. Anyways the F40 has such thin paint over its carbon body that you can see the weaves in the paint. Its also done for extrem weight reduction....................

The f40 is also the greatest car ever built. The reason he hasnt painted it is he's getting rid of it soon. Why would he paint something that he wont own in another couple of months?

385 AWHP is pretty badass... mid-low 11's?

I would imagine higher 11's. Nothing faster than an 11.7 or so. You gotta remember, he is AWD so once he gets launching the car down without spiing, he should be easily cutting low 1.7 60's if not 1.6's on street tires.

I was guessing those times. I have a friend with an STI approx 280AWHP, running mid-high 12's. Figured another 100hp, would get you there. The AWD sucks for the top end though.
