What about Le Mans cockpits, OH...

AND they use brakes to negotiate turns in addition!

Nascar is an exercise in traffic negotiation at high speeds. Sure, those guys exercise excellent skills at that.

I have always regarded racing on a "circuit" to involve the skills of negotiating FIRST and FOREMOST turns, accelerating and braking. THEN, traffic, 150 degree temperature, etc. the MINOR rubrics...

PLUS, they actually brake once in a while

AND have to demonstrate turning strategy in "chess matches"

Too soft for a quicker exit, and you might lose the lead...

Going in too hot to protect the line or pass, slower exit and voila... Double-pass.

I'm sorry... Nascar sucks. 500 miles of mastering traffic... Cool I guess... So is D-1 Drifting or Monster Truck shows... A sport? HELL NO.

I don't doubt that they are badass events to go to and pick up chicks, drink beer, and have a good time... Fun, like going to a pro-wrestling show... boring if you want a sport. I agree 100 %.

yeah but then you think about tracks like Martinsville, where brakes are your best friend, or bristol which is a 1/2 mile oval and there is constant traffic... I'm not saying other racing forms aren't just as hard, but NASCAR is no walk in the park...

I'm surprised dirt track racing hasn't been mentioned, sprint cars do 125+ on 1/4 mile ovals ON DIRT, and they "drift" every turn...

I think any form of racing takes skill, F1 and WRC would be the hardest, but oval racing isn't a walk in the park, I mean in WRC its you vs. the environment, no direct competition... In f1, 90% of the time, the field gets stretched out and some one dominates the race... In NASCAR, even if you dominate the race, there is the constant threat of other cars...

In what way are they a threat? Their trafficking skills? Nascar is no walk in the park... those drivers have to be in tip-top shape mentally and physically... The lack of "turning strategies" takes away from the competitive aspect a bit... It's a crazy high speed run with a bunch of cars... JMO, I'd rather watch my local autocross meets... Or drag-racing... Nascar falls too short for me.

yes we all know it takes a little bit of skill to race in NASCAR, but it just dosent compare to F1 and WRC... that is the point everyone is making, well that and NASCAR is boring as hell to watch....

man those drivers are definately crazy, i love autocross racing liek lemans, f1, and WRC.. the only problem is WRC created RICE ! haha j/k. cars are riced out tho.. great driving, imagine crashing in the woods like that one guy did. it looked more like he was worried about his car over his own injuries lol..

That's because you rarely ever turn or brake in Nascar, only to go around other cars!

Look at Le Mans or speed GT... the cars pushing the edge get a bit squirrely often, NOT just to go around other cars, but for actual TURNS... Yes, it's on a track as well, is it not? Real Track racing

Your local autocross is the place to start.

Though drag racing is fun as hell.

my autocross is full of fwd del sols and integras...

i think i'll pass on the rice fest

and that is just because that is their cop out, they suck in the straight line, so they use the "drag racing sucks, you never turn" crap...

In reality 90% of us with Ls1s here could go there and embarrass the **** out of them, but why?

umm... because it's challenging and fun, maybe. It's challenging to try and better your own times and set up races with friends. ALWAYS, more unpredictable (90/10% driver... How's the LS1 gonna emarrass people? Says who? ALL LS1 drivers are badasses? Come on... I sure am not that good, to be humble and honest) it is.

Maybe where you live it doesn't apply, but where I live the drag strip is not this "sanctuary" from rice. There's rice there, too. Who cares?

Well, there's drifting and then there's racing...

So far we've been discussing racing, like Le Mans, WRC, Nascar, etc. You drift in WRC but it is not a style competition... It's a race to the finish with many challenging turns.
