Once your bottle pressure is too high (way too high, we are talking unsafe pressures here!), a small disc will rupture and release all the gas inside the bottle. This is to prevent your bottle from bursting. Now, if your bottle is mounted in the passenger compartment, you will find yourself in a world of sh*t, should the disc rupture while you are driving.
A blow down tube will connect to this release valve and routes the nitrous to the exterior of the vehicle. Mine is just an aluminum pipe, bent into the shape of a cane and I stick it right through another hole in the driveshaft tunnel.
