How many "real shops" have you seen screw something up? Yes, i probably wouldn't trust just a random guy working out of his garage but i've also seen some of the most incredible custom cars as a product of one guy working in his garage. As long as the person doing the work can do fab work and has a welder there is no reason why it couldn't be done in a garage.

Yeah i know all of this already. But look if i want to go out tommorow and have an engine built where will i go, to the local backyard mechanic, who may really be good, or will i go to a professional business that surely has all the equipment needed?

well on a side note, i just saw my buddies S2000 in the library parking lot and i forgot how badass that thing is. his is a steel grey with red interior, completely stock. he autocrosses that thing and supposedly its an amazing machine. i never had the opportunity to drive one but supposedly with a good driver they are capable of amazing numbers. then again they are also one of the hardest cars to drive.
