Me and my dad did the prepping/painting over spring break. Its not a professional job but I've had several people tell me they wouldnt have thought we did it ourselves (which made me feel good).
The car looks good! Did you do the jambs, too?

Incase anyone is considering doing a real satin black paint job and not a cheap single stage.

Just know the satin clear is 3-4x the normal price of regular clear.

McNords' car.
I love it, one of the best satin finishes on a car period - that I've seen.
Maybe he'll chime in with some info.

I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you.....

LOL, actually its nothing special, its just a sealer, it wouln't last but I wanted to make sure I liked it for one, & the whole car needed to be sprayed anyway, & I was in a time crunch at the time. Once this starts to fade I will go back & redo it.

lol i have a bit to learn about paint apparently.
For being 'ho-hum nothing special' and in a 'time crunch' it looks great.

So.... Is that just a satin black with a 'clear' sealer over it then?
And what's the issue with fading? (aka: What set up would be 'ideal' to make the paint look good and last) if you don't mind me asking.

Thanks for the compliments!

Right now its just a black sealer that has the satin finnish, (single stage). The "right" way to do it is to use a black base coat with a satin clear over it. That would last as long as any paint job, mine even though its garage kept & seldom driven or anything will not last more than 1-2 years I would imagine. Don't know for sure, but its actually holding up rather nicely but its only been about 5 months so only time will tell.

A lot of it is technique that makes some look better than others, you have to keep a "wet" line as your spraying & thats harder to do with a satin finish because it dries so much faster than a standard base coat.

and just so you know... that satin clear looks like dog ****. you cant polish it or wetsand it so if its not done perfect without orange peel, your gonna have to redo the whole thing.
once i get my car washed from this damn pollen i will get pictures up of it. its the hot rod flatz and i had a whole thread in the appearance section under like the real batmobile is finished or something like that

i decided to do this paint because i got the car when it was primered. i used rustoleum lawn furnature paint from homedepot and paid a total of 20$ to paint it. (it was applied using rollers) its not perfect and the car is dirty but i love the way it looks.
