New Camera..

Hi everyone. I just picked up a new Nikon DX40 10.1 Megapixel SLR camera today from Cameta Camera.

I am pretty psyched to try it out. I never had a SLR before. Damn thing was pricey but I figured since the camaro is almost done and I just found a new place today to take pictures (by sag habor I think is the town) I was gonna need a serious camera to take serious pictures.

I purchased the upgraded lense as well. Af-S Nikkor 18-135mm Lense.

Anyone out there have this camera or something similar to it? Any hints/tips.. advice?

P.S. Reason I put this in appearance section is because I bought the camera to take pictures of the camaro. So this will relate to appearance I thought.

nikkor makes great lenses...

18-135 is an ideal range and the AF-S is the way to go.

I have a D-70 and i love it.

How much did you pay for your Dx-40?

dx40 with the extra warranty and the upgraded lense package with their own little package of bag, memory card, ect ect was arouns 1025.00 I believe.

EXCELLENT CAMERA. I am IN LOVE with it!

I use a D80 but I have the same lens. Its a good setup. I've found around 35mm focal length is very nice to shoot cars with (down around 18mm you're getting slight distortion which may or may not be beneficial or detrimental to a photo, up around 50mm and above and to me it compresses the everything too much for automotive photography). Use the manual focus, shoot around f5-f8, and use single point autofocus and adjust it to the forward most focal point when you shoot (headlight, wheel, hood scoop, etc). Keep the ISO low and shoot in Aperture Priority to get started and get a feel for how everything works. And use a tripod if you can. Its a good camera and a great lens, you should be able to get some killer shots out of it.

any classes on post processing? (i'm not sure what it is or how to do it, but i think it makes the edges look dark?)
