That's cause it should have won, but due to the weight difference it didn't.

Well yeah thats true but no one can say that GM cheats because they use bigger ci. because ford has their DOHC engines GM still uses the old OHC 2V per cyl.I think GM should Do a DOHC engine and I bet it will stun the industry.just my 2c

Yup... but that was 17 years ago. I'd be interested to see how a 427ci DOHC runs That sucker would probably rev to the moon

Why? LS7 heads already flow better than the old ZR-1 heads.. At least I figured they would.

In the back of my head I was thinking about the LT5 but It never really recieved performance attention as the basic OHC engines probably because people could make power easier with LT1 engines.like I said everytime GM beats a car someone says "GM cheats because of their huge ci." But well thats the path GM chose to make power.FORD has the supercharged DOHC engines.HONDA has their high reving V-TEC engines.TOYOTA has their strong solid 2JZ turbo engines.etc.Everyone has their own recipe to battle

The zr1 DOHC was many many moons ago... 400 hp (ZR1 ).... Ford has just gotten to 300 ( a legit 300 not cobra recall 300) Please, you dont think GM has a leg up on FORD for engine development as far as horsepower is concerned? You must not look at the cold hard facts. Fact is a 4.8 chevy makes more power then a 4.6 . The 5.3 makes more power then the 5.4. The 6.0 makes as much power as a blown 4.6(cobra). the 427 makes as much power as the blown 5.4(KR or Ford Gt). You think things will get any easier for Fords **** poor engine performance with GM's new Boosted powerplants? GEt a clue Cowboy.

Again, current versus 17yrs old stuff... I bet they could come up with better flowing heads with 4 valves. They dont need to... but it would be interesting to see.

I don't see how a mustang could be carrying 800 lbs of dead weight...unless it has 800lbs of barbell weights in the back... There physically isn't enough space to really hold 800lbs of stuff in that car. This is, unless you count the 800lbs of body weight the mustang has as a disadvantage, but that's a Ford's flaw in making it so heavy. I think if Ford was really serious about making the GT500 more than just another overhyped mustang and more of a performer, they would have thought about trimming it down a little bit. It doesn't suprise me that it got walked.

Actually the Cobra and F-GT motors hold more power than any other stock engine even built. Including the Supra 2JZ. But now we're just getting off topic. The race was only close because the mustang is not near as light as the vette. Win = Chevy for building a lighter car, but both are for different folks. Not everyone wants to drive a vette, believe it or not some people would rather be in the Shelby.

I'd take either, personally.

The 2JZ horsepower numbers that I always hear about are usually misleading, because it is always "stock shortblock", but never 100% stock engine. I'm curious to know what the 2JZ will actually hold out to without even popping off the valve cover. I don't keep up on them like some do, so I've never known this answer.

Correct, most of the Supras making huge power are built head cars, with cams, etc.

And They usually don't make the power until about 7000 rpm.

No, but feel free to explain.

I've experienced otherwise first hand. There are plenty of N/A Fords out there that have ran hard without forced induction. It's not my fault Ford stepped it up and started throwing roots blowers on everything. Besides, power is power, no matter how you get there.
