Default Photoshop Question

I have CS2, and was wondering the steps to create HDR pictures. i was messing with all the different filters, and its clear its not just a filter and more of a process, so i was wondering if anyone could explain some steps

an easy way to get started is to make 3 layers of the base photo. then make the bottom 2 layers desatureated and the top 2 layers overlays. the middle layer will be an overlay as well as desaturated. that gives a good start then i mess with it from there. using that process i got this.

before

after

like i said its an easy start, i work with it if it needs more.

Hope evilways doesent mind me using his vette as an example.

you can also dup the base layer run a high pass filter @ about 54 radius change the blending mode to linear burn or multiply and play with different layer adjustments from there!!! But yes I prefer Photomatix
