Yeah trouble maker 1320Video. To the OP....dont use 1000 iso during the day!! That's a big no-no. I'm surprised you dont have some noise in those shots even if it's the D80. I usually use 400 and that gives me pretty good shutter speeds and no noise. Sometimes I'll use 200 but not too often. With the Canon 40D and some of the Nikons you can do 1/3 increments in your ISO. I had that on my D1x and really missed it with the 20D and Xti. The Xti is small and I never quite liked the feel of it either. The 40D feels comfortable.

I use a Sigma 50-500mm for my bird shots since I cant afford the bigger prime lenses. It's pretty heavy to carry around at 5lbs and you'll certainly need a tripod or monopod. I took these with it plus one of my favorite lighthouse...Bodie Island in the Outer Banks

I am traveling to Glacier national park in the next few months. I own a D200, and wanted to know of a good lens for landscape. I own the nikkon 80-200mm right now, same as the OP. I am also looking at getting a better tripod for hiking.

The sigma pic is blurred and both pictures are poor in quality. With those examples I would avoid both lenses at all costs based off those snapshots.

Well I can attest to the Sigma 50-500's sharpness. You can't go by one photo. The EXIF data isnt there to go by which is very important. I also had a Sigma 150mm 2.8 Macro that was sharp as a tack! Sold it though to buy something for my car as I rarely used it.

This was taken with it and cropped about 70%

Plus the others I posted earlier and they are tack sharp.

Now for Landscapes I really loved my sigma 10-20. I took these with it

Congrats on the gear

I am a Canon guy myself. I hope to be able to shoot like Michelle above someday. I just need to keep practicing.

Good luck

Great pics! I grew up on Hatteras Island, actually lived there full time, so I kind of biased on those pics. Hatteras Island>Bodie Island, lol.

To the OP. Looks like a good setup. I am looking into getting the Nikon D40X. I am wanting to take shots of weather, cars, landscape, and wildlife.

Thanks for the compliments white.lightning and h21surfer OH my gosh the Outer Banks is like heaven on earth to me!! I LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEE it there! We're going there in May. I must say though I got much better shots of Hatteras before they moved it in 1999. Lucky you to have lived there.
